Greetings IGA Family,
We are almost finished with the Georgia Milestones Assessment (GMA). There are. only two days remaining for 8th grade and one day for 5 th grade. On Monday, 5th and 8th grades will complete GMA/Science. On Tuesday, 8th grade will complete GMA/Social Studies. Let’s finish STRONG!
We are very excited to celebrate our staff during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 8-12). Eleanor Roosevelt was actually the one to first convince Congress that we needed a dedicated period to thank teachers for their hard work. Teacher Appreciation Week began in 1953 after Roosevelt spoke before Congress. It wasn’t until 1980, however, that it became an official national holiday. It was originally celebrated in March but was moved to the first full week of May in 1984. There are many fun activities planned for the entire week. Students can participate each day also.
Flower Monday- Bring a flower or draw a flower for your teacher.
Giving Tuesday- Give your teacher a school supply (pencil, pen, sticky notes, etc.).
Thankful Wednesday- Write a Thank You Note to your teacher.
Favorite Color Thursday- Wear your teacher’s favorite color.
Surprise Friday- Surprise your teacher with a special treat.
VERY IMPORTANT NEWS!!!! Our current Local School Governance Team (LSGT) will have one parent member vacancy for the 2023-24 school year. If you are interested in serving as a member of our LSGT, please email Mr. Taylor to have your name added to the ballot. The deadline for nominations will be May 31, 2023. All parents will have an opportunity to vote for a candidate at the IGA Open House in August 2023. Again, if you are interested in serving, email Mr. Matt Taylor (matt.taylor@dcsirish.com ). If you believe that another IGA parent would be an
excellent candidate, please encourage them to email Mr. Taylor. Together we will make IGA bigger and better each year.
Our Character Trait for the month of April was Thoughtful. The April Students of the Month were chosen based on that character trait. The Students of the Month for April are as follows:
