The certificate is intended to help students develop transferrable skills that are highly valued by employers and to make students more marketable upon graduation. One of the classes offered through the certificate program in Fall 2022's Second Seven Week Session is PSY 386: Caring for Aging Adults and Selfcare for the Caregiver. This class emphasizes self-care and stress management for professional and family caregivers and though the focus is on aging adults.

Curriculum

The Tribal Courts and Justice Administration Undergraduate Certificate is available both to University of Arizona students and to members of the community interested in administering justice in Indian country.

*No more than six (6) units of credit used to complete the certificate can also be used for a current degree requirement (i.e., major, minor, or General Education) or second certificate.

Students pursuing the 12-credit certificate must complete the following required coursework:

1. Either LAW 402A American Common Law System I (3 units) OR LAW 402B American Common Law System II (3 units)
2. LAW 450A Native American Law and Policy (3 units)
3. LAW 467 Tribal Courts Practice and Procedure (3 units)
4. Either LAW 468 Tribal Criminal Law and Procedure (3 units) OR LAW 469 Native American Family and Domestic Relations Law (3 units)

Students also benefit from a number of experiential learning opportunities, visiting tribal courts and meeting with tribal court judges and administrators.

The Buddy Walk was developed in 1995 to promote awareness and inclusion for people with Down syndrome and to raise money for research and education programs. The Buddy Walk Program has expanded from 17 walks the first year to more than 250 last year. Today, the Buddy Walk Program is supported nationally by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) and locally organized and hosted by SANDS.

The Tucson Buddy Walk is the primary fundraiser and awareness-building event for the Southern Arizona Network for Down Syndrome (SANDS). The Tucson Buddy Walk is an extended family picnic for the entire community that features exhibits, food, entertainment, a raffle and silent auction. Although the Tucson Buddy Walk is less than one mile, it is the largest walk of its kind in Southern Arizona and anyone can participate without special training.

Employers are hiring interns right now for summer internship opportunities! And consider this... besides learning about different industries and building skills, internships can also offer a full-time job post-graduation! Students who complete internships are 2X more likely to report employment upon graduation AND over 50% of employers offer full time positions to interns.

The Peer Coach team within SECD is launching an internship series and they want you to be there! This series is designed to help you find and apply for opportunities with confidence through workshops, email-based guidance, and 1:1 support.

Some details about the series:

• Receive motivational messages every Tuesday in October - a great way to start the week in only 5 minutes!
• Meet every Wednesday in October from 1:00 to 1:45 PM, and work alongside peers going through the same process.
• Receive resources for self-paced work that you can complete any time you like.
• 1:1 support throughout the entire series. A career peer coach will always be there to answer your questions.

The full commitment is 2 hours per week and wraps up with a November Internship Fair that you’ll be prepared to attend.

I am conducting a research study examining ESL learners’ reading behavior while reading an English text. You are invited to participate in a study in which you read text while your eye movements are recorded, and then engage in activities that demonstrate what you learned about what you read. You will also complete a short questionnaire that asks you a few demographic questions and questions about your language background and use.

The experiment is anticipated to take no more than 1 hour, and you will be paid $20 to complete the study. It is possible that you may be excluded from participation if there are eye-tracking calibration issues (this does not happen very often), and if this is the case, you will receive $5.

To participate, you must meet all the following criteria:

(1) a U of A student whose native language is either Chinese, Japanese or Korean

(2) 18 years of age or older

(3) Not having lived abroad for more than 6 months before the age of 18

(4) Not having astigmatism

In addition, we ask you to avoid wearing bifocal or dark-colored glasses, and that you not wear heavy eye make-up; these can interfere with eye-tracking.

Participation in this study is voluntary. Your identity as a participant will remain anonymous during and after the study. You will be assigned a participant code; a list containing links between participant codes and names will be encrypted and kept in Box@UA until the experiment is complete (at which time it will be deleted).

This experiment will be conducted individually in an eye-tracking lab located in the Communication building (Room number: 314). You can schedule your experiment at https://calendly.com/hyeonahkang/1hour .
