WMS Friday Forecast
September 17, 2021
Wredling Families:
This week we reached our mid-point in the quarter. Now is a good time to review assignments and grades in HAC (Home Access Center). At the start of the year, there are typically fewer graded items in the first quarter than in the following quarters. If there are questions I encourage you to have your student email the teacher or set up a time for them to meet. If there are still questions, you should email or call the teacher.
Checking HAC on a regular basis is sometimes a good preventative measure rather than facing end-of-the-quarter shock. This is a good practice both for students and for parents.
Just a note that it is not unusual in middle school for a student to suddenly stop turning in work or change behavior when it relates to grades and school work. Typically, adding more frequent HAC checks along with some consequences helps provide a necessary course correction. And remember, we are always here to support you!
Enjoy your weekend!
Tim
Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences
Middle School conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 7th from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and Friday, October 8th from 8:00 am - 12:00pm. Sign-up for conferences will be via the Pick-a-Time conference scheduler. You will have a choice of an in-person or a virtual conference in Zoom. Sign up has been delayed. We will notify you when the scheduler is open.
Directions: CLICK HERE FOR PARENT DIRECTIONS
Login to your HAC (HOME ACCESS CENTER) Account
Click on the link for "Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduler"
Be sure to ONLY choose Q1 teachers!
A few notes about sign-up:
Parents should not feel obligated to sign-up for conferences. If your child is doing well at school, both academically and socially, then you might choose not to have a conference. (It does not make you a bad parent not to sign-up for conferences!) If your child is struggling, we would suggest that you do come to conferences!
You might only feel the need to meet one or a few teachers. There is no obligation to meet every teacher.
If you wish to visit the explore teachers, please sign-up to visit your child’s first-quarter explore teacher.
You can sign-up for a conference with a teacher only one time. Our student services team (counselors, social workers) will be available for conferences, as well. If you decide you need more time with a teacher, we are always willing to meet with you.
In some cases, a teacher may contact you in advance to set-up a conference time. That means we want to guarantee you a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
When you sign-up, try to sign-up for all conferences in a row. (Do not schedule gap times in the middle or you will be waiting around for a long time!)
You are welcome to have your RedHawks student with you during conferences! It is important that they hear what you hear. They are of the age when they are mature and responsible enough to be part of the conversation whether via Zoom or in-person.

STAYING INFORMED ABOUT WMS ACTIVITIES
There are two ways to stay informed about all of the happenings here at WMS:
- Our Friday Forecast has bigger topics. All parents get this weekly on Friday.
- Our Daily Announcements have more day to day operational announcements: auditions, club dates, tryouts, etc. You must sign-up to get Daily Announcements on the bottom of the WMS Website. You will get announcements on Mondays, but you will need to check this Google doc each day to see what has changed. It is a "living" document and helps reduce the number of emails you receive.

Support for Your Child if they are Quarantined:
If your child is quarantined due to Covid, our teachers will send work to your child and work with you and your child as we always have when a child is out of school. We want to recognize that quarantine offers some unique challenges for our students.
We will be offering instructional support through a certified teacher during quarantine. Ann Rose, a recently retired D303 teacher, will be available to support our quarantine students through Zoom. When a child begins quarantine, we will email both the child and the parent with information on how to access Mrs. Rose's Zoom for support. We encourage our quarantined students to access this instructional support!
Dear RedHawk Families
Staff, students and parents are encouraged to help digitally document this year in the yearbook. We offered this opportunity to our families last year and loved the many submissions we received.
