Are You or Anyone You Know Looking for an Opportunity to Work with High School Students?
The EHS AVID program is looking to hire three tutors.
We are seeking adults (18+) to work with high school students two days a week. This might include current college students, retirees, or anyone who has a desire to work with students directly.
Hours: Tuesday and Thursdays; 7:30-11:30
Pay: About $18 an hour
Duration: remainder of school year (and possibly following years)
AVID students engage in tutorials every Tuesday and Thursday during class. The role of the adult tutor is to be a group facilitator who helps guide the students through their confusion and help them help one another. The tutor does not need to be an expert in a given field of study. We will provide new tutors with online AVID training.
Interested parties should contact Stacy Jameson at stacy.jameson@district196.org
You can learn more about AVID at EHS here: https://ehs.district196.org/academics/avid
Below is list of duties/expectations for AVID Tutors:
1. Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of AVID students.
2. Serve as a positive role model/mentor to students.
3. Determine concepts to teach or reteach from students’ notes and discussions.
4. Review student class and textbook notes, binders and calendars.
5. Conduct tutorial sessions in all subject areas individually or in small groups.
6. Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
7. Assist students in all phases of the formal writing process, including brainstorming, clustering,
revision and editing.
8. Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student
progress and areas of concern.
9. Review the performance and work of students on tutorials
10. Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and
socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.
Students Entering Eagan HS During the School Day
Maintaining security in our school during the school day is important. We want to be sure that only Eagan HS students, or students enrolled in our Career Development courses from District 196 schools, or those EHS students who travel from SES to EHS for one or two courses, are entering our building during the school day.
After 7:40 AM all students who enter the building travel in through the secure entry booths. Students will be expected to show their current student id card (which is issued free to all students each school year) at the entry booth station.
Any student who does not have the id card should stop in Attendance to request a replacement.
