Surrarrer Elementary students are learning about Ancient Egypt through art class with Mrs. Solecki. Each year, Mrs. Solecki incorporates a “trip to another country” in her lessons for students in K-5. Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.

As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.

In art class at Whitney Elementary, students designed a “make someone smile” postcard to send to someone to let them know they were thinking about them. In class, students learned about what a postcard is and how it is used. They compared postcards to email messages and texts and learned how postcards are addressed and sent through the mail using postage stamps - no envelope needed!

Mrs. Marissa Olesick is the building secretary at Chapman Elementary School. Mrs. Olesick is in her first year working in our District after spending several years in administrative roles for other industries. She has her undergraduate degree from the University of Phoenix and has lived in Ohio all of her life (except for a few years in Florida!). Mrs. Pinney, Principal at Chapman Elementary said this about Mrs. Olesick, “Marissa is so kind to our students and staff and welcomes any challenge that comes her way.”

“The best thing about working for Strongsville City Schools is the team atmosphere. I was very nervous when I first started at Chapman since I had never worked in a school district before, but everyone happily welcomed me and made me feel as if I had been with the district for years. I love the different interactions I am able to have each day with my co-workers, families, and the students at Chapman Elementary,” said Mrs. Olesick.

The annual “State of the Schools” presentation by SCS Superintendent, Dr. Cameron Ryba, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at 6:30pm and will be livestreamed on our District website (www.strongnet.org). We encourage our community to tune in for a review of the student and teacher accomplishments from this past year and the exciting path for the future of our District.

Thanks to the USDA and Federal Meal Program, breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided at no cost to students through the end of the 2020-21 school year (5/28/21), or until available funding runs out. Check out Strongsville Council PTA’s online fundraiser, which includes granola, coffee, popcorn, and MORE! Congratulations to the following Mustang student-athletes who earned Greater Cleveland Conference Player of the Month honors for January:

Camryn Larissey (Gymnastics) - Camryn is one of two senior captains and a three year letter winner. In the first home meet of the season, Camryn led the Mustangs to a victory over Brunswick and individually won Vault, Bars, and the All-Around. She helped contribute solid scores on Vault and Bars at the GCC Invitational, where the Mustangs finished 3rd overall.

Justin Wypasek (Boys Basketball) - On Friday, 1/22, in a 97-61 victory over Open Door Christian, Justin broke the Strongsville single game scoring record as he finished the night with 52 points. He also tied the school record for three-pointers made in the game with 9. Justin is currently averaging 18 points a game this season.

Reagan Bass (Girls Basketball) - Earlier this month in an 81-41 victory over Euclid, Regan scored 22 points. Along with being a team captain, Reagan maintains a cumulative 4.5 GPA. Reagan will continue her academic and athletic career at The University of Akron next year.

Andrew Arslanian (Boys Swimming) - On Saturday, January 9th at the GCC Championship Meet, Andrew was Champion in the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free Relay, and 400 Free Relay. On January 19th against Solon, he won the 200 Medley Relay, 50 Free, 100 Backstroke, and 400 Free Relay. Next year, Andrew will continue his academic and athletic career at Cleveland State University.

Strongsville City Schools is now hiring motivated, energetic, part-time professional substitute school bus drivers. This position features great pay ($16.19 per hour), flexible hours, no holidays, and is very rewarding. Requires a CDL Class B, with SP endorsement - TRAINING IS AVAILABLE!

With the abundance of emails that we all receive on a daily basis, and some being directed to spam or becoming buried in other folders in your email account, it sometimes leaves you without knowing an email was sent. One way to address this issue is to send a text that alerts an email has been sent. Although our texting option is not new for the district, families must opt in to receive our texts. More parent opt ins are needed to make it an effective communication strategy. Please click HERE and follow the directions to opt in to our text messaging service.

Our Instructional Technology Department and Curriculum Department have partnered in the creation of the 'SCS Tech Corral.' The site includes reference guides and 'how-to' videos for a number of common programs and software our students and teachers are utilizing. This is a great resource with lots of helpful information. The Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League

The Cleveland Browns, in association with the Strongsville Football Backers, are bringing the Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League to Strongsville! The league is open to girls and boys in grades K-6, with competitive play at each grade level. Practices will be held once per week, with games on Sundays beginning in April. Connecting for Kids (CFK) provides education and support to families who have concerns about their child. We serve all families, including those children with and without formal diagnoses. Great Lakes Science Center Learning Lab

Great Lakes Science Center’s new Learning Lab program supports working parents who need daytime childcare for their school-age children. The program provides a safe, supportive environment where children can do their schoolwork virtually. Many of the Science Center’s health and safety procedures for programming during the pandemic were developed for Camp Curiosity, which served more than 1,000 children this summer.
