A New School Year
My girls started school last week (picture above). Lynette is in 1st grade and Lucy Sue started Pre-K. My house has been busy getting ready for back to school and getting in a routine. My 1st grader has been very eager and excited and LOVES school! My preschooler has been excited but has cried and made it difficult for me to break away from her every morning so far. Her teacher has been kind to send me a picture of her through Class DoJo to ensure she's happy and engaged and has long forgotten about her momma! Her favorite part of school so far has been the playground and riding the bus! :-)
Back to School time to me is like beginning a New Year! I set new goals, try new ideas and routines in my home and feel like I'm starting each day renewed! I feel the same way professionally. I look forward to this upcoming 2018-2019 school year and working with all of you to increase Family Engagement awareness and training in our Region. I'm here to support you and over the next month, I'll be sharing some ideas and new ways that I can support you in the work you do to engage families!
Please reach out to me at any time!
Many Blessings,
Kimberly

Building Capacity and Strengthening Partnerships for Family Engagement
ESSA, Building Capacity (section 1116) has long been a requirement of LEAs and schools, but for many it has been a perfunctory task rather than a useful tool designed to increase parent and family engagement in a way that increases student achievement.
This session will provide a quick overview of the ESSA, Building Capacity requirements and strategies to help work innovatively with parents and families. Techniques for working collaboratively with families will be discussed. Session will also include a presentation by a model school who is doing exceptional work with their families.
Extensive handouts and resources will be provided.
Intended Audience: ESC Staff, Federal Program Directors, Administrators, Parent and Family Engagement Liaisons
