He Must Increase
Good Afternoon!
Where did October go?! With a lot of action, and Fall Break in the middle, I feel like we skipped from September to November. The students have been diligent in their schoolwork as we start our 2nd quarter. I am proud of how they are approaching all aspects of our mission here at SPN. This quarter is going to be a great one... I can feel it!
We had a special visitor today at our 3V Series (Virtue, Vocation, & Vision) for our middle schoolers. Father William Novak, who is an Alum of SPN, and also serves as Pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish & Vicar General of the Archdiocese of OKC, came by to speak to our middle school (Pictured above). He poured into our students on the virtue of humility and related it to Saint John the Baptist. Two of his main points to our students were to "learn to set yourself aside," and that "He must increase, and I must decrease." Two very simple points, but great reminders for all of us. Father Novak's humble reminders hit home a little more with our students due to the fact that he actually walked the same hallways, and sat in the same classrooms that our students are in now. He ended his lesson with a blessing of our students and shouted "GO FALCONS!" Thanks to Father Novak for spending some time with us!
Friday is "Outsiders Day" in the middle school. Our students will be dressing up at characters from The Outsiders which they just finished reading. This will be a fun day. I am excited to see their outfits... I may or may not be dressing as "Two-bit." Only time will tell!
This Saturday is the Holy Fire Confirmation Retreat for our middle school students. If your child is attending, please have them wear their black spirit shirts. There will be over 1000 kids at this amazing event, and this will help us keep them together.
Holy Fire will end at 5:30pm, then our infamous Trunk or Treat will be starting at 6:30pm in the North Parking Lot. Trunk or Treat will be a great time for our school and parish community. We look forward to seeing you there!
Our annual Pumpkin Contest will be taking place at Trunk or Treat as well. If your family is entering a pumpkin into the Pumpkin Contest, please bring your pumpkin to school on Friday. (Pumpkin Painting contest, not carving.) See examples below.
We will have an "out of uniform" day on Friday, November 3rd. We will be accepting donations of at least $2 to dress out of uniform. All donations will go directly to the Society St. Vincent DePaul at our Parish. The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics, following Christ's call to serve the poor, the suffering, and the deprived. Our parish is holding their annual St. Vincent DePaul food drive which serves those in need in our local community. Please consider dressing "out of uniform" next Friday, November 3rd and donating $2 or more for our community in need. AND... our former Principal, Mrs. Tener, has agreed to match our donations up to $1000! So, whatever we raise up to $1000, she will match that amount to donate to our parish Society of St. Vincent DePaul. THANK YOU Mrs. Tener for your generosity, and your continued commitment to our amazing parish and school!
Lastly... Basketball signups are due this Friday, October 27th. Please turn registration forms in to the office. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Ryan McMullen at rmcmullen@spnok.org.
