October 2020 Monthly Newsletter
Happy October, Rainiers!
Greetings Columbia Crest Families,
We are so excited to welcome back K-5th grade students as we “Fall into school.” The teachers are eagerly awaiting to return to in-person instruction. I hope our middle school students will be able to return very soon. October 5th: Preschool Resumes 9:00am-2:30pm
Although it is a half day on Monday for group A and Tuesday for group B it is critical to send your child. Teachers will go over important safety protocols and practice classroom procedures. In addition teachers will be creating classroom unity and building relationships.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic there are new protocols parents need to be aware of.
School Hours
Students may not arrive on campus prior to 8:50. At this time, school begins at 9am and concludes at 2:30pm. On half days school dismisses at 12:30pm.
Half Day Schedule
While Monday and Tuesday are half days we are serving both breakfast and lunch. In addition, students will have a shortened lunch recess.
Visitors and Volunteers
We are not able to allow any visitors or volunteers this year. Parents are strongly discouraged from entering the building this year. Please message us through email if you need assistance and feel free to call our main office in place of entering the building to make inquiries.
Changes to Daily Transportation
Parents need to submit changes to their child’s transportation by 1:00p.m. Please alert our main office of these changes by leaving a voicemail at 360-569-2567 or emailing our secretary at l.fitzer@eatonvilleschools.org.
Paper notes will no longer be accepted.
New Tardy Policy
If a parent is dropping their child off late, the office will need to be called from the parking lot. Parents will no longer come into the building to sign their child in for the day. Students who are late to school will need to come through the front door of the school and stop at the office to check in. Parents should stay in their vehicle and watch their child until they have entered the building.
Parent Drop Off & Pick Up
Parents who transport their child(ren) will need to remain in their vehicle when they drop them off in the morning. Parents who are picking their child up at dismissal need to park their vehicle in the parking lot. The parent will stand in front of their vehicle and wait for a staff member to walk the child to the vehicle. Parents may not congregate outside the front entry or come inside the lobby to wait for their child.
Morning Screening
We understand that there has been some concern about teacher screening in the morning. We are relying on parents to screen at home by asking the same questions and taking temperatures. There truly should be minimal students sent home if parents are screening too. We all need to work together to keep students and staff safe. Thank you for your help and support.
Teachers will meet students at the designated classroom door and perform a no contact temperature check and do a visual inspection for symptoms. Per the TPCHD, wellness screening is to take place immediately upon building entrance regardless of external environmental factors. Any ESD staff member that is screening students must wear DOH approved PPE, which includes eye protection (goggles or face shield) and a mask. Teacher is to ask each student if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, fatigue, loss of taste or smell) or if they have been in contact with anyone with COVID-19 in the past 2 weeks.
Does my child have to wear a mask?
Yes. Wearing cloth face coverings has been proven to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and is required for staff and students in all indoor public spaces within the Eatonville School District. At this time, face shields cannot be substituted for face masks unless they meet the following criteria: during specific lessons that may require visual communication, for students with disabilities, or students with certain diagnosed medical conditions. If a student falls into one of these categories, we ask that parents work directly with their student’s principal. Please refer to the Washington State Department of Health Guidance on Cloth Face Coverings and CDC Recommendation Regarding the Use of Cloth Face Coverings for more information.
Chromebooks
Chromebooks need to be brought to school fully charged. Please clarify with your child’s teacher to learn more about the need to transport the device to and from school.
Welcome Back, Rainiers!
Wednesday Attendance
Each Wednesday your student’s attendance is tracked based on the completion of the school counselor social emotional lesson. Every Wednesday at 7am you will see the lesson/activity posted in your child’s virtual classroom (either Google Classroom or SeeSaw) with the necessary links and instructions. This is not a live meeting time with the school counselor.
The lesson can be completed at any point during the day, whatever works with your schedule! The lesson always has two important components, the lesson content (usually a video) and a Google Form “exit ticket” which is a short list of questions for them to complete after the lesson. It is important to click submit at the bottom of the exit ticket as the names for attendance are taken from the submission of this form.
If you are unable to complete the lesson due to internet issues, technology problems or other family obligations, please reach out to your child’s teacher so they can mark attendance properly. If the school counselor social emotional lesson is not completed, your student will be marked absent for that day. We understand schedules can sometimes be hard to coordinate. If the lesson is not completed Thursday morning by 9am when we track the names, your student will be marked absent and you will receive a reminder from your classroom teacher to complete it. We encourage each student to get in the habit of completing these lessons each Wednesday!
