Where Excellence is the Tradition
Having health insurance is critical for our children to thrive at school. There are free and low-cost health coverage options available through Medicaid and Hawki which include coverage for medical, dental, immunizations, prescriptions, mental health services and more. You can have a regular doctor for your child and be protected from unexpected accidents and illness. Many working families qualify; children and teens in a family of 4 earning up to $80,030 may qualify for Hawki. And don’t forget, if your child is already enrolled in these programs, it’s important to renew their coverage every year so they can get the care they need when they need it. The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) can assist with in-person application assistance for families with children through presumptive eligibility. You may contact your local Hawki Outreach Coordinator at 563-556-6200 or for more information go to https://dhs.iowa.gov/hawki or call 1-800-257-8563.

Caleb Helle Basketball Spotlight Interview
By Kaleb Hefel
Caleb Helle is a senior basketball player for the Clayton Ridge Eagles. Caleb has started on the varsity team for four years. When asked how Caleb made progress to become a good basketball player, he stated that he went to a lot of open gyms, weight lifting, and basketball practices. Caleb's advice for a young or beginning basketball player is to be committed, try to get better even when it becomes challenging, and practice being able to dribble with both your right and left hand. Caleb’s preferred spot on the court is a point guard. If he was not a point guard he would prefer playing a post. Caleb’s memorable moment in his basketball career was during his freshman year. He remembers they were losing by fifteen points but the team pulled it together and won the game. He laughed as he said they got to pour water on Coach Sperfslage. A fun fact about Caleb is that his favorite NBA player is Stephen Curry.
Will Spielbauer Basketball Spotlight Interview
By Aidan Finch
William Spielbauer is a senior high school basketball player for Clayton Ridge who has been playing basketball basically his whole life. He has made a lot of progress from the beginning and formed himself into a great basketball player. His progress was made from working hard, practicing and a good diet. His advice to a beginner is to set goals and do everything you can to achieve those goals. Will prefers to play forward. If he didn’t play forward he would want to play guard to be able to handle the ball more often. His favorite moment in his basketball career was when he scored thirty-five points against Wapsie Valley. A fun fact about Will is that his favorite NBA player is Devin Booker.
Kurt Ross
By: Myka Bries
Kurt plays point guard on the varsity basketball team for the Clayton Ridge Eagles. His favorite shot he likes to shoot is mid-range, which is about just inside the three-point line. To become better he works on his skills in the offseason. Kurt said that the best way for younger players to become better is to make your shooting form better. In order to shoot better you have to practice a lot. The strategy Kurt likes to use on the court is communication. You have to communicate with your teammates to have a good relationship with them. Kurt likes to play basketball to enjoy the thrill. He said that when he started playing basketball, he knew he was going to continue playing. He has become a better dribbler and better at basketball. His most memorable moment was when he played Beckman during his sophomore year. A fun fact about Kurt is his favorite basketball player is A.J. Green from U.N.I.
