An Important Message Regarding Budget Changes and Staffing
February 16, 2024
Dear Pasadena Unified Community,
I hope this message finds you well. As we navigate through the upcoming budget development process, I want to address some significant changes that will impact our district community.
Due to the conclusion of COVID-19 one-time funding, a decline in enrollment, and the need to allocate our resources responsibly, we are facing the difficult decision of implementing reductions. This is a challenging situation that requires careful consideration and we are actively exploring all available options to maintain the quality of education that our students receive while minimizing the impact on our valued staff.
In the coming months, our district will be engaging in a budget development process. We will strive to make well-informed decisions that prioritize quality education and the well-being of our students.
We are taking the necessary steps required in the Education Code to ensure that affected staff members are notified in time for the March 15 state deadline to issue preliminary Reduction in Force (RIF) notices.
We are committed to recognizing the hard work and dedication of our staff. We are actively continuing to work towards fair compensation for all employees whose work contributes to the success of our district.
While preliminary layoff decisions need to be made by mid-March, we will continue to monitor developments at the state level as we develop our budget and determine staffing levels for 2024-25 and beyond.
We understand the concerns and uncertainties that these changes may bring, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this challenging time. We remain hopeful for the best possible outcomes and will keep you informed during the budget development process.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Blanco, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
