Welcome!
Welcome to the first edition of our Stoner Prairie School-Wide Newsletter! This newsletter will come to you weekly, on Mondays. Below are links to your child's individual classroom teacher newsletter.
Every newsletter will include helpful information from our across our school community including:
- A Principal weekly message
- Information from related arts and the library
- PTO Updates
- Classroom newsletters (included in the next section.
Our goal is to send one weekly communication (instead of several separate emails). In addition, we are also using Smore - a program that enables us to translate the content in over 65 languages! We will reach out in a few weeks for family input on our new communication method.
Principal Connection
It has been a great start to the year - thank you to everyone who greeted me at our welcome back bash on the playground and/or during our first three weeks as I am at the entry door welcoming our scholars each and every day.
We spent our first two weeks building relationships and trust across the school. Our daily scoop has continued - ask your scholar about my dog, Oliver, as he made a guest appearance during our daily announcements. We are digging deeper into our academic curriculum! Fall assessments are on our “To do” list as well as preparing for October conferences that are right around the corner! I look forward to seeing everyone soon, Mary

Important Updates & Upcoming Dates
Attendance reminders:
Please call 608-845-4203 (English attendance line) or 608-845-4200 (Main line with Spanish option) or email sp-attendance@verona.k12.wi.us (English and Spanish) with all attendance changes. When only communicating with teachers, it gives them yet another message to remember to communicate to the office and sometimes doesn’t get passed along.
New Visitor Procedure
We have a new visitor system this school year. When you come to school for a meeting, for volunteering, or any other reason that you would be in the building past the front office, please be prepared with your picture ID. There is an option to hold onto your ID information in the visitor system for 90 days so that you don’t have to show your ID each time. When you are signed in, you will get a sticker to wear while you are in the building. If you have any questions about this new system, please reach out to the front office.
Welcome to our Superintendent
Speaking of visitors...Dr. Clardy stopped by Stoner Prairie on Friday! As he greeted students and staff, Ms. Tate welcomed him for an opportunity to join her class in the "hot seat" an opportunity for students to ask him questions for 2 minutes (Principal Seidl enjoyed earlier this year!). We learned that after he stopped playing football, he took up boxing! We were happy he joined us and look forward to more visits!
Book Fair in October
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Stoner Prairie 10/3 - 10/10! New this year, students will preview the book fair during their library time and shopping will only be open after school and during conferences from 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm on Thursday, 10/5 and Tuesday, 10/10. We would like to get a book in every student's hands! If your family would like a scholarship book, please contact our social worker, Laura Confer, at conferl@verona.k12.wi.us. If you'd like to support our scholarship book program, you can donate money to our eWallet account (click here).
Coming soon: The Stoner Prairie Fun Run!
The first Stoner Prairie Fun Run is coming up on 9/29 during each grade's related arts block! All students will receive a free t-shirt, take a class picture, run for 20 minutes, and have a post-race snack all while raising funds for the Stoner Prairie PTO. There will be music, bubbles, and the Wildcat mascot! Check your email for more details and information on how to create a webpage to have friends and family sponsor your student or use the paper pledge form in the email or paper copy that will be sent home soon.
Related Arts Updates
Hello from the Stoner Prairie Library!
We have had great weeks in the Library, and I am so excited to see all of our readers back at school! Each class has come to the library for a half hour, and will continue to visit the library weekly throughout the year.
Students typically check-out two books at a time, and the books are due back in two weeks. If a student has more than five books out, they will be asked to return some before they can check out more. There are no late fees for overdue books. Fines will only be assessed in the event that a book is lost or damaged. We encourage you to read with your child and/or talk with them about their library books. Please help them be responsible with any books they bring home.
Feel free to reach out to Rebekah Hewitt (hewittr@verona.k12.wi.us) with any questions you may have about the Stoner Prairie Library!
Orange Vest all over!
As we started school this year, we focused on learning safety routines and procedures. One of those is to honor that any teacher outside wearing an orange vest is a trusted staff member who can help any of our scholars. Please remind your scholar that any adult wearing an orange vest can help them anytime they need when outside!
