HMS Students will be getting a “taste” of normalcy beginning today! Beginning today at lunch, we will be allowing all students to go through the lunch line and pick up their lunches. We also are adding a rotating schedule for students to eat their lunches in the Commons with friends. Mondays and Wednesdays will be 6th and 8th grade day in the Commons and Tuesdays and Thursday will be 7th grade day in the Commons. Each grade level has four classrooms. On Monday and Tuesday, all students will go through the line to pick up their lunches at their regular lunch time--two classes from each grade level will return to their classrooms while the other two will remain in the Commons to eat their lunches. Approximately 40 students will be eating in the Common at one time at 6 different tables. They will get to pick their seats beside friends with a limited number of seating at each table. Once seated, a record of where students sit will also be kept to help us with contact tracing. On Wednesday, we will flip flop and the students who ate in the classroom earlier in the week will then get to eat in the Commons.

This gives our students a little more freedom and a chance to get out of their classroom and to chat with friends they haven’t gotten to see much through this school year. It also will give our teachers some free lunch time and a time to interact with their colleagues and relax for a bit! This is certainly a welcome move for all! Of course, we will continue to monitor our COVID rates. If we see a spike in cases, we will have to return to our more restricted lunches in the classroom.
