A Leader in Me School - November 2020
A Message From Your Principal - Attitude of Gratitude: Being Thankful
Dear Central Families,
The season of Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. Being able to share gratitude for others brings a joyful feeling in our hearts. This school year is like no other that we have experienced, yet our students and staff have navigated the challenges and small inconveniences in a big way – always keeping the academic and personal growth of our students at the forefront!
When it comes to our Central Tiger Cubs, Central Staff, the list of all the little things that contribute to a positive learning environment and school culture are many.
This year I’m thankful for…
- The leadership of our Central Team of teachers, support staff, custodial and café staff who have approached this year with hope, not fear. Always working hard to keep the safety and best interests of students first!
- Our Central Tiger Cubs who come to school each day excited to be here and ready to learn. They’ve rolled with the changes and not let face masks and social distancing get in the way of meaningful learning!
- The kind words and support that we have received from our Central parent community this semester is so appreciated. Your words of encouragement for our daily work as educators means so much to us.
Yours in education,
Rebecca Outcalt

Mrs. Outcalt Kisses a Mystery Animal
When students reached the whole school walk-a-thon goal of $10,000, Mrs. Outcalt promised to kiss a mystery animal. In past years Mrs. Outcalt has kissed a Pig and a Skunk. This year Mrs. Outcalt got to kiss Liberty the Donkey! Many thanks to the generosity of our Central community in continuing to support our Central students and staff in educational and extra-curricular programming.

Student Lighthouse Team - Working Hard for Our School
Our Central Elementary Student Lighthouse Team has been divided into action teams that run different programs around the school. We are so proud of the leadership we see in our students. Our Veterans Program Action Team decided that COVID was not going to stop them from honoring our veterans. This student group chose to have an outdoor parade and asked each class to make posters to share with our veterans as they drove through. The Recess Equipment Action Team has also been working diligently to keep our recess supplies organized and neat for each zone. Some of these students meet weekly before school to work on the equipment and others help during the day after all recesses are complete. This is another example of students taking charge of things that matter to them! We are also proud of a new action team called the Sunshine Squad. They are working to spread joy around the building and ignite this in our entire student body. Soon they will begin weekly joy spreading challenges on the news. Without question, our students are working hard to continue on their mission!
Central Honoring Veterans
Central Food Drive
Leighton Batts, a first grader in Mrs. Mitchell’s room, joined forces with the Student Lighthouse team. Her mission was to collect as many food items and Thanksgiving Day cards for the Shalom House to distribute to the Lebanon community during this season. Our Central students banded together to donate nearly 300 items and over 100 hand-made cards. No matter what is going on in our world, these kids are showing us all that good is all around us!

3rd Grade Learning Science
In Science third grade is learning about water. They are discovering water on a slope, absorbing and repelling, hot and cold, expanding , freezing, boiling, and how to measure the temperature of water. Here they are discovering how much water a sponge can soak up. They are using grams to weigh the sponge and the water before and after the experiment. They are then repeating the process to prove that their method works.
Reading Harry Potter & Delivery Kindness
The students have been reading Harry Potter in third grade. They delivered kind notes to others with their owls. These nice words helped them prepare to get accepted into Hogwarts. The students then used the kind words in a letter to prove they are ready for Hogwarts.
Congratulations to Mrs. Barber!
