Greetings Families,


This school year is coming to an end in the most unprecedented ways imaginable, not only due to COVID-19 and distance learning, but due to the extreme acts of racism we have witnessed, not just in the past weeks, but that have plagued our country and our systems for centuries. I stand with Superintendent Mike Scott and Board Chair Erika Lopez condemning the death of George Floyd and working to dismantle the systemic racism that permeates our country, and specifically our schools (revisit their full message here).


Lenox is a wonderfully diverse community and with that diversity we know our students, families and staff of color face significant challenges. As a staff we have worked on awareness and implementation of culturally responsive teaching practices and strive to know each student by name, strength and need to support each student to the best of our ability. As a white female leader, I know that I personally and professionally have a lot of growth to do, specifically through a racial equity lens, and the responsibility to take action so that our students, families, and staff of color feel safe, valued and supported. Like many of you, I am grappling with many emotions and questions, but know that we can do better and we must do better.


As a staff we have identified racial inequities that are present in our school and we strive to not only look at ourselves in the mirror and reflect upon and question the long standing practices and systems of education, but to look at and learn from the lived experiences of our students, families and staff of color. We have a lot of work to do, but with the Lenox staff and community alongside me and each other, we will listen, learn, and educate ourselves and continue to take action to make our Lenox community a safe and anti-racist environment. We stand with our students, families and staff of color.


We are still uncertain about what next fall will bring as far as the model of school for us; continued off-site learning, a traditional on-site opening, or a hybrid model. However, in whatever way we come back to school, know that our staff will be working hard to support our students and families in the best way possible. Be looking for communication from our district and from me over the summer for updates. I hope your summer brings you joy, sunshine and relaxation.

This & That

  • iReady Access Update: all of our current K-6 students will continue to have access to iReady through August 1st.
  • Google Classroom Summer Access: students will be able to continue having access to Google Classroom over the summer to be able to complete work that was not finished by June 10th. If a student has assignments visible, then students can work on those assignments. Just know that whatever work is completed past June 10th will not be counted toward their grades, it would be to benefit them from missed learning opportunities.
  • Math Learning Center Home Learning Resources: Schools may be closed, but math learning can continue! Through June, and longer if necessary, The Math Learning Center (MLC) is providing free resources for all students to use independently or with support from family members or educators. Click HERE
  • Spanish Tech Support Line: In order to ensure equitable access to Distance Learning, HSD has opened up a Spanish Language Tech Support line for students and families. Assistance can be reached at 503-844-1568 Monday through Thursday, 7:30-3:30.

  • Meal Service Update: This is the final week of bus distribution and production site service of meals for the 2019-20 school year. Wednesday, Jun. 10, will be the last day of service, and on that day students will receive meals for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. After that, students are invited to participate in the Summer Food Program, which runs Wednesday, Jun. 17, through Thursday, Aug. 13, Mondays through Thursdays, at a variety of locations around the greater Hillsboro area. Please see the Nutrition Services website for more information (English, Spanish).

  • Lost and Found: items will be placed out in front of the school on Thursday, June 18th, from 8:00AM-2:00PM. Please only come if you are looking for a specific item and practice social distancing while looking for items. All unclaimed items will be kept over the summer and there will be opportunities in the fall to retrieve them.

Summer Tech Support Options for Students

If students need to return a device or get technical assistance, we will maintain our Student Technical Support / Apoyo Técnico para Estudiantes sites throughout the summer. Students are able to email techhelp@hsd.k12.or.us or fill out a form in English or Spanish.

Online Registration

We are still registering for incoming kindergarten students and all other new students for the 2020-21 school year. Please visit this link for all information regarding registration.


Please share this information with your neighbors if they will have a Kindergartner next fall. We would like people to register their Kindergartner as soon as they can. Please do not wait until August, go ahead and do it now. Thank you!

Every fall I read a book to all classrooms. This year I decided to end the year with a book for all students too. I hope you enjoy it.

Distance Learning Parent Survey

All HSD parents are asked to complete our 2020 Distance Learning Experience survey so we can better understand your experience with the distance learning model while physical schools have been closed.

The survey is voluntary, but your responses will be very valuable to us as we seek to enhance our distance learning processes and protocols in the event this model needs to continue into the future.

All survey data will be summarized so that each person who answers will remain anonymous. Nothing in the survey will be used to identify you.

You will be able to complete this survey in about 10 minutes. It is ok to go back and change your answer to a previous question, but you must finish the survey in one sitting.
