Irish Gifted Academy
Week of October 23rd, 2022
From the Desk of Dr. Norfleet
Happy Weekend to all Reimagineers!
We had a rich and productive week, as always at IGA. I wanted to make sure to congratulate
our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Brin Hogan, who teaches Art here at IGA Middle. She is such an
asset to our program and she actually does a lot more than just teach art! Also, our Support
Staff Member of the Year is Mrs. Debra Register, who you all know is the heart and soul of the
Middle Grades Building. Without these ladies, this program wouldn’t be close to the awesome
place that it is. We truly are blessed to have such great people and such a wonderful school
environment to come to each day!
As we get refreshed for the next week, remember that the dress code is important as well as
following all rules at school. We take pride in our program and part of that is demonstrating
strong character by doing what is right! Next week is the last full week of October- so that
means HOUSE DAY! We will have House Day and our Fall Festival on Friday, October 28. I hope
to see you all there!
From the Desk of Mrs. Methvin
Greetings IGA Family,
This week has been full of active learning and fun. Students have been using higher
order thinking skills in various content areas. Higher order thinking is thinking on a
level that is higher than memorizing facts or reciting something back to someone
exactly the way it was presented. When a person memorizes and gives back the
information without having to think about it, that is rote memory. While rote
memory serves an educational purpose, there is always more for students to learn
and room for them to grow. Curriculum tasks are made more challenging by
targeting higher order thinking. This sets the conditions for students to extend
their learning. Please take an opportunity each day to discuss your child’s school
day, ask about his/her learning, and contact the teacher with any questions or
concerns. Teamwork makes the dream work!
Next week, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week, which is
celebrated annually October 23-31, is the nation's oldest and largest drug
prevention awareness program. The National Family Partnership organized the
first nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign in 1988. Since its beginning, the Red Ribbon
Campaign has touched the lives of millions of people around the world. Beyond
spreading awareness on the dangers of drug and alcohol use, Red Ribbon Week also
presents an excellent opportunity to teach students about the benefits of building
lifelong healthy habits, physically, mentally, and emotionally. The national theme
for Red Ribbon Week is “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.”. Students may dress
up each day to show their support for a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Monday- IGA is drug-free! Wear RED.
Tuesday- Hocus Pocus…Keep your dreams in focus! Wear your favorite
COLLEGE ATTIRE.
Wednesday- Don’t let drugs be your nightmare! Wear PAJAMAS.
Thursday- Say Boo to drugs! Wear WHITE and a SILLY HAT.
Friday- Don’t let drugs haunt you! Wear your HALLOWEEN COSTUME.
Let’s have fun, but remember that ALL outfits must be school appropriate. If you
have any questions, please call 478-353-8490.
Our Character Trait for the month of October is Helpful.
