JA STEM Volunteers
We need your help! On February 7, 2024 Junior Achievement of South Central PA will be at Dover Area High School with their STEM Summit Program. All students in 10th grade will be participating in the day-long event designed to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
The goal of the STEM Summit is to inspire students to pursue an academic STEM focus in the remainder of their high school courses. After the completion of the STEM Summit, guidance counselors have a foundation to work with students on appropriate course work.
For this day to be a success, we will need volunteers to facilitate ONE of the STEM activities for the day as students rotate through your station. You do not need to have a STEM background to be a great volunteer! If we do not have these volunteer spots filled, we are in danger of not being able to run this meaningful event. Please also share this opportunity with friends, neighbors
and colleagues who may be interested in helping the students of our school. I have attached a flyer with all of the information for the day and a direct link for you to sign-up.
You do not have to be an approved school volunteer to help with this day. Junior Achievement will provide online training as well as on-site support to all volunteers. A light breakfast and lunch will also be available for volunteers. Please consider volunteering and join us as we spend the day empowering and inspiring our students. This opportunity is only possible with the support of wonderful volunteers like you.
To sign up to volunteer, click the link in the flyer or contact Shannon Baker, Vice President Program Operations, at sbaker@jascpa.org.
Financial Aid Information
DId you miss the Financial Aid Night held on Tuesday, November 28th? If so, you may want to look at the copy of the presentation that was shared, which is linked below.
Apple IOS & Google Chrome Updates
If you have updated your personal Apple devices to the latest version of IOS, there is an issue that was brought to our attention by our School Resource Officers:
IMPORTANT PRIVACY UPDATE: If you have an iPhone and have done the recent iOS 17 update, they have set a new feature called NameDrop defaulted to ON. This feature allows the sharing of your contact info by bringing two phones close together. Go to Settings, General, AirDrop, and Bringing Devices Together to shut this off. Change to OFF.
PARENTS: Don’t forget to change these settings after the update on your children’s phones to help keep them safe!
Additionally, we received the following information today from DHS concerning Google Chrome:
"Google has rolled out security updates to fix seven security issues in its Chrome browser, including a zero-day that has come under active exploitation in the wild.
https://thehackernews.com/2023/11/zero-day-alert-google-chrome-under.html"
We are working on sending the updates to school-issued devices; however, as with the IOS concern, you will want to check your software at home.
