Thank you to our sponsors, Bayh College of Education at Indiana State Univeristy, sponsoring our keynote speaker, Indiana Teacher of the Year Sharita Ware; Five Star Technology, sponsoring our snack break between sessions two and three.
What follows is our traditional newsletter, "The Monday Minute," which is sent to our members on the first and third Mondays of the month. We like to highlight useful classroom resources as well as special opportunities and professional learning.
RESOURCES FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Dr. Torrey Trust has several outstanding interactive digital choice boards for Black History Month, including the one above. Her goal is to inspire critical thinking, creative design, and technology-driven learning. You can find it and several other resources on this page. They are licensed under CC BY NC ND 4.0, so you can edit and remix with credit given.
In honor of Black History Month, Google has adapted some of their Applied Digital Skills lessons to explore the importance of Black history, express identity, and celebrate the contributions of African Americans throughout history.
The Library of Congress has many primary source materials; this portal has suggestions for how to use many of them in the classroom.
The website iCivics has many of their own resources to suggest, and links to several others on this page.
The website We Are Teachers has a great list for February and beyond.
"Celebrating Black History Month All Year Long" blog post from TCEA.
There are resources in the INLearning Lab, including this Wakelet from Katie Belloli.
And, UJU is out with a new "Would You Rather" video for the Winter Olympics, although I don't necessarily agree with the actions they chose for some of the sports. (ie curling) And if you like that one, you could also do the Super Bowl Brain Break, although I thought the last question would be "Rams or Bengals?" These are fun activities you could do if you have 5 minutes of spare time and want to help create some debates among students.
IT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN....
-word.rodeo where you put in your own word, and also mywordle
-Did you recently start playing? This archive has every daily word, from the beginning in June, 2021 before it was even public.
-For your numbers fans, there is numble, where you create an equation to yield a given answer, or Ooodle, which is similar.
-Absurdle is similar, but harder, as the answer changes during the game!
-There is even a new geography game making the rounds, albeit a little clunky, Globle
-And if you want even more, see this blog post from TCEA, Texas Computer Education Assoc.
