TUSD Parent Message - COVID 19 Update: High School Graduations
Dear Parents and Guardians:
As Tustin Unified School District is now fully immersed in its third week of providing continuity of education through distance learning, we hope you are all well and adjusting to this new way of teaching and learning. We’ve been so impressed with what we’ve seen from teachers and students these past weeks, and we want to thank you for your continued patience and commitment as we navigate this ever-changing public health crisis.
As a reminder to parents and students, all schools remain closed through the end of the academic year (May 28) in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Our community’s health and safety is our greatest concern. Even so, we understand this is a difficult time, especially for our high school seniors who have been looking forward to important school milestones, such as graduation.
However, we have some good news to share. A committee of administrators, ASB advisors, teachers, and students from the high schools met to discuss end-of-year celebrations and have recommended rescheduling graduation ceremonies to early August at Tustin High School’s Northrup Stadium.
Tentatively, graduations will be held on Wednesday, August 5, and Thursday, August 6, with two schools per day. In an effort to avoid the summer heat, graduations will occur at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Below is the high school graduation schedule:
- Tuesday, August 4 - Beckman Performing Arts Center at TBD
- Wednesday, August 5 – Foothill at 10 a.m. and Beckman at 6 p.m.
- Thursday, August 6 – Hillview at 10 a.m. and Tustin at 6 p.m.
The District’s high school graduation ceremonies will be conducted under the social distancing guidelines in place at that time. We will provide more information in the weeks ahead as plans are developed. Additionally, Tustin Adult School and Tustin Connect graduation ceremonies will be held at the Beckman High School Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, August 4 – time to be determined.
We all want students back in school and for our communities to return to normalcy as soon as possible, but not at the risk of their health and safety. New information is emerging daily, and we will continue to diligently monitor the situation.
We will continue to provide you with relevant information, and please check the TUSD homepage for regular updates at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
Thank you for your cooperation. Stay strong and stay healthy.

Message From Our PTA
Dear Tustin Connect Families,
Despite everything that is going on right now, the PTA team hopes that your family is well, staying safe, and healthy. Even though our schools have been closed into our 4th week now, your PTA team has been working hard behind the scene to work towards the goals we have set up to support our school and our amazing students.
We know times can be difficult for a lot of families and students right now with the current new norm. If you need some resources to help you and your child cope during this time, please do not hesitate to reach out. We have essentials, food, and various resources that we are more than happy to share with you. Below is also a link that our California State PTA has provided for families to utilize during COVID-19. This link will provide information on talking to your kids about COVID-19, ways to stay healthy for your mind and body, and how to cope with this new normal during this time.

In the meantime, our PTA team is also working to accomplish some goals during this time, including some plans for below. Please keep an eye out for emails with more information on these events in the near future.
1. Teacher Appreciation May 4-8th. Our wonderful teachers have worked hard, and still continue to do so during this time. Now more than ever, we need to show our continued support and appreciation for our teachers.
2. Student Graduation. We do not want to let COVID-19 stop us from celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments our amazing students have achieved. We are discussing some plans and how we can organize this special day to honor our 8th and 12th graders.
3. Setting up our PTA bank account, Fundraising, and Amazon Smile Account. Due to COVID-19, these tasks have been delayed but will definitely happen in due time. Our goal is to get these up and running as soon as possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback. This is your school and PTA, and your participation is ALWAYS welcome and appreciated.

Behavior Support Weekly Strategy
Hi TUSD Families!
There are many different strategies that we can use with our children at home so that they are successful throughout the day, and the words we choose can support and encourage our child even more.
In order to set your child up for success, you can say something like, "What do you need right now to be successful?"
When your child is frustrated, you can support them by asking, "What can I do for you so that this task is a little less tricky?"
You can offer support by saying, "What strategy or tool do you need right now to support you?"
And you can give them choices by asking them, "Would you like to _____ or _____ first?"
To listen to these phrases in action, and to see more tips and strategies, be sure to follow @backtobehavior on Instagram. Check back each week for more tools and strategies.
Please visit listeningfromtheheart.com for even more support at home.
Warm Regards,

High School and Middle School Students Utilize Grade Slam
As an additional resource during this time, Grade Slam or now called Paper is available for all your academic courses including prior submission for all of your essays as well as support with English, Math and Science classes. It's an incredible resource. Be sure to use it! For your convenience and for our middle school students that are new to this resource, we've included a parent and student handout as well.
