Principal's Message
Wildcats and Families,
We had a great first full week of school. On Thursday, August 19th, we hosted over 300 parents at Back to School Night. Hopefully, you were able to attend. If not, feel free to reach out to any of our teachers with questions or insights concerning your student. I also want to mention our appreciation to the students of A & M Crew that assisted last evening. Thank you.
We want to welcome Mrs. Alison Hanks to our team. Mrs. Hanks will be serving DHS as our Speech Pathologist. We also want to welcome Ms. Cassie Rockers to DHS! Ms. Rockers will be serving DHS as our Alternative Education teacher. We are glad to have both join our Wildcat family.
We are excited to share with you that Justin Hoffman was nominated for the Making a Difference Award (sponsored by Great American Bank) for the month of May! The nomination window is open for August! Please consider nominating ANY USD 232 staff member that has made a difference in the life of your student. Making a Difference Nomination Form
The Board of Education approved three (3) delayed start days for the 2021-22 school year. The first delayed start date is Wednesday, September 22. Students will begin school two (2) hours later than normal. Students will need to be at school for their first block class at 9:50 a.m. The other two dates for delayed starts will be October 10 and April 6.
Homecoming week begins Monday, September 20th. Fun activities are planned to take place all week long, with an all-school assembly and Football game vs. Lansing on Friday, September 24th, and the homecoming dance scheduled for Saturday, September 25th.
We want to continue to share some important information and reminders for parents. Please remember to call DHS if your student is absent. The attendance line is 913-667-6259. We also continue to ask that students missing school as a result of a physician/medical/dental appointment verify the appointment by turning in an appointment note/slip from the healthcare provider. This helps us ensure the absence is excused. Students can turn the note into the school office when they return from the appointment.
Go Wildcats!
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff
Principal

A&M Crew
This week our Ambassador and Mentor students (A&M Crew) met for their orientation. A&M Crew Members are leaders selected to help bridge communication between school leadership and the DHS Student Body. Members represent each of the DHS Core Values and are champions of our school. A&M members did an outstanding job supporting our Freshman Kick – Off day and Open House for student who are either new to the district or were Optional Remote last year. There will be numerous opportunities for members to support school wide activities and facilitate small group activities during selected Seminar dates throughout the year. We greatly appreciate their involvement and commitment to academic and extracurricular success at DHS!
Notes from the Nurse
VACCINATIONS
The State of Kansas requires incoming 11th graders to have one Meningococcal vaccine on or after their 16th birthday. Your shot record might say MCV, MCV4, MCV40, MCV4P, Menveo or Menactra or just meningococcal. All of these meet the requirement.
If your student has already had these vaccinations, please email Anne Lightcap, BSN, RN the shot record (mfarverlightcap@usd232.org). If you have already submitted a shot record containing this vaccine, you do not need to send it again. How can you check? From your desktop (it will NOT work on your phone), go to Skyward, then choose:
Health Info (tab on the left side) Display Options Show Vaccinations
UPDATED Immunizations
If your child has received any UPDATED immunizations since last Spring- please send these to the nurse at mfarverlightcap@usd232.org
If no changes to your current immunizations, I do not need another copy unless you are a new student or have been contacted by me about state required immunizations.
Medications to be given by the nurse
For students that take a medication to be given by the nurse at lunch or during the school day. Please remember I must have a signed doctor's order. A link to medication form on the USD 232 district Health services website can be found here. Or you can print the form below.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks,
