Busy as Bees!
Spring is a busy time in an elementary school, and Paul Road is no exception! This past April our students in grades 2-4 had the opportunity to attend Aladdin at the Rochester Broadway Theatre League's Auditorium Theatre. What an incredible performance it was! My favorite part was hearing our students get excited and make connections to musical numbers and scenes they had previously studied in class. Then, we were lucky to have the actors who play Aladdin, Jasmine, and Iago join us for a question-and-answer session at the Gates Chili Performing Arts Center (GCPAC). What a memorable and enriching experience it was for our Panthers. Thank you to all the staff and families who helped prepare for and chaperone the event.
Also in April, we had a special visit from Miss Frizzle and her Magic School Bus! She revealed that we would be reading "The Magic School Bus and The Climate Challenge" as a building for our One School, One Book initiative. We hope you enjoyed sharing this reading with your students at home and that you left with some new ideas on how to help protect our environment.
Coming up this May is our Paul Road Art Show, where we will highlight the artistic talents of our Panthers! Be sure to stop by on Thursday, May 4 from 5-6:30 p.m. At the same time, we will be having a Buy One, Get One Scholastic Book Fair in the cafeteria. This fair will only be offered during this evening time, and we are only accepting credit/debit cards.
The following week is our final Paul Road Band and Chorus Performance of the year. Be sure to join us at the GCPAC on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
Also in May, we celebrate our staff! Please join us in celebrating Staff Appreciation Week from May 8-12 by letting the professionals who work with your students know how much they are valued. Taking the time to send in a kind note or have your student draw a picture is very meaningful to remind our staff of the difference they make each and every day!

Staff Spotlight
These two work hard to support the academic, social and emotional wellbeing of our panther students, families, and staff. They complete assessments, consult with teachers and related service providers, and help identify and secure the resources and educational programming needed to ensure the success of all.
Mrs. Dennstedt coordinates our therapy dog visits and brings a warm and comforting smile to those she works with. Dr. Ryan co-facilitates our Panther Pride Club and is committed to promoting equity and ensuring all of our panthers feel welcome and affirmed at school. A Note from our Nurse
It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are times when keeping them home to rest or calling for an appointment with your health care provider is recommended.
Please keep your student home and/or contact your family doctor for:
- Fever greater than 100.4 (taken by mouth or tympanic)
- Vomiting and or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
- Severe sore throat along with fever and feeling ill for more than 48 hours, or after exposure to Strep throat infection (may return 24 hours after taking first dose)
- Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth OR undiagnosed rash on other body parts
- Large amounts of mucous (liquid) from their nose, with face pain or headache
- Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear
- Severe headache, especially with fever
If your student has a fever, it is not recommended to give them medicine like Tylenol, Advil or Motrin and send them to school because as soon as the medicine wears off, the fever may return, and you will be called to come pick up your student.
Please keep children home for 24 hours after the fever ends or they have completed 24 hours of medication if prescribed by your health care provider. If you have any questions about when or if to return to school, please contact the School Nurse Cynthia Cole.
If you find your student is frequently asking to stay home from school, if they are falling behind, appear anxious about school, or if there does not appear to be any physical illness symptoms, contact your school nurse or the school social worker to discuss your concerns.
Remind children to throw away used tissues, cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, keep their hands away from their face and fingers out of their mouth, and to wash hands often with soap and warm water, to help keep everyone healthier.
