Dear Valley View Parents and Families,

I can’t believe it, but we are almost to 2022! In addition to in-person classes, we have had a choir concert, a band concert, 10 different clubs have weekly meetings, and five different sports have taken place. It’s been exciting to see students involved in all these activities again. Thank you for your continued support for this in-person school year to happen.

Mid-Term 2: The mid-point of our second quarter is Friday, December 3rd. Please take time to review your student’s progress on Skyward. If you have concerns about your student’s performance in a class, please contact the teacher of that class. If there are several classes that you are concerned about, please contact one of our two counselors. They can work with you to help develop a plan to get your son or daughter back on track.

Safety: Thank you for keeping your students home when they are not feeling well. We haven’t had any COVID transmissions at school this year due to the Department of Health protocols that we (staff, students, and parents) have followed. Our admin team is also meeting with students who need mask reminders. Please continue the supportive mask-messaging at home as well; it is appreciated!

Phones and Social Media: Our administrative team will be visiting science classrooms next Monday to revisit expectations at Valley View. An area of focus will be the use of phones and social media. Please remind your student that they may not take pictures of other people without their knowledge, especially if they plan on posting those pictures on social media. Not only does it violate our school rules, it could also be illegal.

Parking Lot: Thank you for continuing to turn right at the bottom of the parking lot when dropping off and picking up your students. It cuts down on the time people behind you are spending in line in the parking lot. A couple of our signs have disappeared on us, so we may not have a “Please Turn Right” reminder at the bottom of the parking lot.

Second Season Sports: Boys’ basketball and girls’ volleyball games started on Monday, November 29th. Please be aware that everyone who is attending the games will be required to wear masks, and family groups are asked to spread six feet apart in the bleachers.

Winter Music Assembly: Our band and choir students will be conducting a live-streamed winter concert to our classes the day before Winter Break (December 17th). Thank you to Mrs. Erickson and Mr. Mines for thinking of creative ways to hold a live assembly for our student body.

School Spirit: Mrs. Neff and our ASB students are sponsoring a winter-themed door decorating contest. The Viking Period class that has the best-decorated door will earn donuts at lunch. Thank you to Mrs. Neff and our ASB students!

If a student or staff member is not feeling well and has any symptoms of illness, even mild ones, please stay home. Symptoms could include cough, sore throat, fever, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or loss of taste or smell. One symptom is enough to warrant staying home as a precaution. We know it can be frustrating to stay home with mild symptoms. Children get sniffles, a cough, or upset stomach from time to time, and this is usually not cause for alarm. But this pandemic is the time for extra caution, and all students and staff should stay home even if symptoms are mild. If a student or staff member with symptoms does go to school, or if they start having symptoms while they are at school, expect they will be isolated and sent home as soon as possible. This means an ill student would likely be asked to wait in a dedicated room where they are not near others until a parent/guardian arrives to take them home. Students who are ill or are symptomatic should be picked up within 30 minutes of parents/guardians being contacted.

Class A symptoms:

• Fever (defined as subjective or 100.4 F or higher)
• Cough
• Chills
• Loss of sense of taste and/or smell
• Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing

or

Class B symptoms:

• Fatigue
• Headache
• Muscle or body aches
• Sore throat
• Congestion or runny nose
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea (defined as 2 or more loose stool in 24 hours)
• 
  

Upon returning home

The information in this section only pertains to those individuals who are not a confirmed close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:

• If the student or staff member is tested for COVID-19 (physician-, lab-, pharmacy- or clinic-confirmed test) and the results are negative, they may return to school once their symptoms have improved, and they’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours. Anyone with symptoms is encouraged to get tested.
• If a student or staff member has symptoms but is not tested for COVID-19, they must remain home according to the timelines below and at least 24 hours after fever is gone and symptoms have improved:

1. 1 class A symptom of any duration = 10-day quarantine
2. 2 class B symptoms of any duration = 10-day quarantine
3. 1 class B symptom lasting more than 24 hours = 10-day quarantine
• Those who have symptoms but have not tested for COVID-19 and are not close contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, may obtain a medical professional’s note clearing them for return. The medical professional’s note must be based on the individual’s established medical history or must include an alternative lab-confirmed diagnosis.

Thank you to families who ordered Spirit Wear – we love your school spirit! For families who requested their Spirit Wear orders be sent to the school, we regret that we are not able to do school delivery this year. These orders should be available for pick-up at the Streamline building at 1910 Bickford Ave Suite H, Snohomish. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes! To fix this problem for the future, Streamline will be removing the ‘deliver to school’ option. Agendas: Students will not be required to purchase agendas. Thank you to the Parent Club for providing all students with an agenda and school handbook. Students were given their agendas on September 21. If your student was absent or never received theirs, please have them request one from the main office.

PE clothing: Uniforms are not required. Students will be required to wear school appropriate tennis shoes, t-shirts, sweatshirts/sweats, or shorts. Viking Wear can be purchased from the VV Parent Club, go to their website for details. https://www.vvmspc.org/

Medication at school: If your child needs to take a prescription medication at school, you must have a SSD form signed by your doctor. See link below.

We really appreciate your interest, even though we don’t know exactly what to expect this school year. We do know that volunteers that are in the building must be vaccinated.
