Welcome to October 😊

This week...

• the seniors are at the Tech Center on Wednesday to work on their Personal College Statements
• we will be hosting our second Coffee with the Principal and our first ELAC/DELAC parent meeting on Wednesday
• Vision to Learn is back this Thursday to continue examining students who were identified during the initial vision exam

Taking the lead during the first week of our October Attendance Counts grade-level contest is 10th grade .

The grade level that has the highest percentage at the end of the week October 13 = an Ice Cream party!!!
The grade-level with the highest percentage rate by 10/31 = gets free dress for a the entire week of 11/06!!!

Help your student, help his/her grade level by making it to school everyday.

1st place went to Mr. Kent's Promise Time class who went above a door decoration by providing the judges with an experience of Mexican traditions. Students in the class explained to us the relevance of the Aztec calendar and its Gods, along with a Dia De Los Muertos alter, a pinata, traditional dance, candies and even a Canelo Alvarez experience.

Great Job!!!

2nd place went to Ms. Angulo and Ms. A. Lopez Promise Time class - who showcased not one but two Hispanic countries - Guatemala and Costa Rica. Student in this class provided not just basic factual information, a photo pop-up but also a playlist for each countries most popular musicians.

Congrats!!!

3rd place went to Mr. Valdez's Promise Time students who not only explained to us the geography of Bolivia but what each color in the flag represented 😊

Amazing!!

The space will be monitored 100% of the time by either Ms. Cortez or Mr. DePaz.

Also note on hot days - we always have several rooms open in order to help students stay cool; Encourage your student take advantage of this.

Want to contact your students teacher? You can either contact them directly via email or you can have the office relay a message or schedule a conference for you, by calling either Ms. Rubio or Ms. Avalos at (213) 348-6850.

Since we will be having a pupil free day - meaning NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 20, this means we will have an all periods schedule on Thursday, October 19.

Please note that uniform checks are conducted daily and every student is expected to abide by the uniform policy.

Student wearing slides, slippers, sandals or any shoe deemed a safety hazard will remain in the main office until parent is able to bring them a change of shoes.

Students who are not in uniform will…

• Lose PBIS points

• Serve nutrition and lunch detention that day

• Receive a parent phone call, asking to be brought a change of clothes

Food cannot be delivered to students during the school day by food delivery establishments, including but not limited to Uber Eats, Door Dash or GrubHub. Please remember that only parents and immediate family members in the computer system can deliver food to you during the school day. This is to better ensure the security of the school as well as to minimize disruptions to the school day. Food delivered to students by outside delivery companies will be confiscated and given to students at the end of the day, as they head home. If a student opens an outside door to allow an outside food delivery, or accepts food through the gate, they will face disciplinary consequences as that creates a security risk.

Consequences for ordering food will include...

• 1 week of nutrition and lunch detention
• A parent conference
• Confiscation of the food order, which will only be provided to the students guardian after school
