Remote/Asynchronous Learning Days for Students
Teachers will have all assignments/learning for both days posted to Google Classroom and communicated to students prior to the start of each school day and there will be no live instruction on either day. This also applies to SCS Connects students. This will not impact any students in Lincoln Learning, Edgenuity, Edmentum, or Apex.

Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.

As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.

Congratulations to SCS Treasurer, George Anagnostou, and his entire team for earning the ASBO International Meritorious Budget Award for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Mrs. Brooke Whitney is a 2nd grade teacher at Surrarrer Elementary. In her seven year career with our District, Mrs. Whitney has also taught at Drake and Chapman Elementary Schools. A graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, she has taken on the additional task this year of teaching in the SOLO 2.0 program for 2nd graders. Teaching SOLO 2.0 students has allowed her to connect with students and parents throughout our District.

“My favorite part about working with second graders is the fun and laughter they bring into the classroom every day. I enjoy getting to know them and learning about their interests, as well as sharing stories with them about my family,” said Mrs. Whitney.

“I enjoy building relationships with my students and connecting with them daily. I want my students to enjoy coming to school and learning in my classroom. I love working at Surrarrer and collaborating with other teachers to plan fun and exciting lessons for our students.”

The annual “State of the Schools” presentation by SCS Superintendent, Dr. Cameron Ryba, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 3 at 6:30pm and will be livestreamed on our District website (www.strongnet.org). We encourage our community to tune in for a review of the student and teacher accomplishments from this past year and the exciting path for the future of our District.

Thanks to the USDA and Federal Meal Program, breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided at no cost to students through the end of the 2020-21 school year (5/28/21), or until available funding runs out. Check out Strongsville Council PTA’s online fundraiser, which includes granola, coffee, popcorn, and MORE! Baldwin Wallace University started their swimming and diving season recently. Strongsville High School graduate (Class of 2019) and BW sophomore Julia Newbould placed in the first two meets (vs. Mount Union / vs. Ohio Northern). The All-OAC freestyler took second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.67 seconds and third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.60 against Mount Union and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.01 and was third in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:47.35 against Ohio Northern. Julia is a Psychology major at BW. #foreveramustang

Strongsville City Schools is now hiring motivated, energetic, part-time professional substitute school bus drivers. This position features great pay ($16.19 per hour), flexible hours, no holidays, and is very rewarding. Requires a CDL Class B, with SP endorsement - TRAINING IS AVAILABLE!

With the abundance of emails that we all receive on a daily basis, and some being directed to spam or becoming buried in other folders in your email account, it sometimes leaves you without knowing an email was sent. One way to address this issue is to send a text that alerts an email has been sent. Although our texting option is not new for the district, families must opt in to receive our texts. More parent opt ins are needed to make it an effective communication strategy. Please click HERE and follow the directions to opt in to our text messaging service.

Our Instructional Technology Department and Curriculum Department have partnered in the creation of the 'SCS Tech Corral.' The site includes reference guides and 'how-to' videos for a number of common programs and software our students and teachers are utilizing. This is a great resource with lots of helpful information. Cavs Academy is headed to Strongsville Recreation Center on Feb. 27th for an awesome opportunity for young basketball players to engage in a safe, fun and active basketball clinic. The Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League

The Cleveland Browns, in association with the Strongsville Football Backers, are bringing the Junior Browns Spring Flag Football League to Strongsville! The league is open to girls and boys in grades K-6, with competitive play at each grade level. Practices will be held once per week, with games on Sundays beginning in April. Connecting for Kids

Connecting for Kids (CFK) provides education and support to families who have concerns about their child. We serve all families, including those children with and without formal diagnoses. Great Lakes Science Center Learning Lab

Great Lakes Science Center’s new Learning Lab program supports working parents who need daytime childcare for their school-age children. The program provides a safe, supportive environment where children can do their schoolwork virtually. Many of the Science Center’s health and safety procedures for programming during the pandemic were developed for Camp Curiosity, which served more than 1,000 children this summer.
