Principal's Message
Hello Springwater Students and Families,
I hope the new fall season finds you safe and well. We are in the home stretch of quad 1: students have just a week and a half of the grading period left! Final grades for quad 1 (and credit) will be determined on Friday, November 13th.
Reach out and attend the academic support times if you need help getting your grade up!
This weekend also marks the beginning of the holiday season. We have included guidance from the Center for Disease Control regarding how to safely navigate the season in the midst of COVID.
Our lunchtime clubs are gaining traction and it has been great to see students participating. Additionally, leadership led a game of Among Us at lunch time on Tuesday for students who wanted a break from school work.
Our student/teacher conferences will look different this year, in light of distance learning. Conferences will occur virtually, via Google Meet, with advisory teachers. Conferences will run the evenings of Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th. The goal of these conference is for you to provide feedback regarding distance learning and answer questions about your student's academic progress. We will be emailing out a signup sheet in the next week.
Lastly, please see the information for Quad 2 supply pickup to make sure you are ready to go for your next classes! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with questions, ideas, etc.
Stay safe and take care,
Ryan Blaszak
Springwater Main Office: 503.261.4600
Conferences will occur virtually, via Google Meet, with your student's advisory teacher on:

State Testing Opt-Out Notice
With the 2020-21 school year well under way, I wanted to take a moment to provide some important information about this year’s state tests. Last year, state testing was cancelled as we transitioned to distance learning. For this year, we are still waiting for guidance from the state regarding whether or not we will be offering state tests in the Spring. Even though we do not know what will happen this Spring in regards to state testing, we are still required to let you know about your rights as a parent regarding state testing.
ORS 329.479 establishes a Student Assessment Bill of Rights permitting parents or adult students to annually opt-out of statewide summative assessments in English language arts and Mathematics. The opt-out forms will not be available on the Oregon Department of Education website until later this school year. We will let you know when the opt-out forms become available. This notification will be sent to you at least 30 days prior to when your student would begin testing. More information about the annual opt-out / testing notification process can be found here:
Oregon Annual Testing Notification - English
Oregon Annual Testing Notification - Spanish
In the Gresham-Barlow School District, we are deeply committed to inspiring and empowering each student and ensuring that every student in our schools has the support they need to achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for their next steps.
I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher(s) with any questions you may have about your student’s progress.

Distance Learning Strategies
- Post a schedule of your classes close to your computer
- Set reminders for your classes on your phone / chromebook
- Find a quiet place to participate in Google Classroom meetings. (We understand this can be extremely challenging when everyone is stuck at home!)
- Work with family members to minimize disruptions during live class sessions.
- Remember engagement and communication are more critical than ever during distance learning. Communication is about human connection, understanding, and community: all of which are priorities for us and part of the reason you chose to attend Springwater!
- It can take time to become comfortable turning your camera on and there are other ways to show you are engaged. Below are some ways to communicate and engage during live class sessions:
-------> * Use your microphone to ask and answer questions.
-------> * Use the chat feature to ask questions and get clarification.
-------> * Let your teacher know (through the chat) if you have to step away from your computer for a moment.
