PQ Tuesday Newsday
December 12, 2023
NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I'm sure you all can feel the excitement building as the holiday break inches closer! This time of year in an elementary building is exciting, engaging, and also challenging. Everyone here at PQ is working hard to sustain the focus on academics and high-quality instruction rather than allowing the upcoming break to pull us away from that mission. As the academic work continues, our Student Council has organized a spirit week starting on Monday, 12/18, to keep us all in high spirits. Please see the complete list of activities below.
Looking ahead at some upcoming events: This Thursday at 6 pm, our 4th graders & 5th grade band members will host their holiday concert. The students have worked hard, put in the practice time, and are almost ready for the big night. Please be sure to come out and support their work. Also, please be sure to join us on Monday night at 5 pm at the Ruth Keeler Library to discuss the possibility of Pre-K coming to PQ.
Lastly, I would like to recognize and celebrate the terrific work of Dr. Sands, Mrs. Koehler, and all the classroom teachers who made an "Hour of Code" a huge success last week and this week. As the students engaged in debugging code and developing algorithms, I could not help but notice how the North Salem mission shines through at PQ. This month, we have a focus on being critical and creative thinkers, and that goal was certainly reached across the building with "Hour of Code."
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Be well,
Roy & Dawn

Hour of Code is Underway!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade have been experiencing "Hour of Code" while in the library with Mrs. Koehler. It's a wonderful way to introduce students to the world of computer programming! Check out the pictures below of some of our students collaborating and practicing critical and creative thinking methods!

From the PQ Nurse
We are seeing many diseases this time of year. Please seek medical attention/diagnostics when ill and make the nurses office aware of these documented illnesses. This is important for treatment and to control any spread in the school.
As a reminder, if a student needs medication in school, it has to be transported by an adult/guardian or the student needs a self carry form which can be found in the pediatricians office and on our website under PQ health forms.
Do not hesitate to contact the nurse's office at x-3043 for any questions or concerns.

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year is ongoing. To register your child, please contact Jean Jerussi at jjerussi@northsalemschools.org or call 914-669-5317 x-3056
Parents please note that students may NOT switch buses.
A bus change can only happen when there is an emergency childcare issue. This change needs to be communicated with the PQ Office and transportation. Once they approve it, a bus pass can be written and given to the student for the driver. The parent also needs to update School Dismissal Manager mentioning this bus change and the bus number.
Please reference PQ Pointers for this school policy and others.
Thank you.
