Superintendent Quarterly
January 2024
It's great to be a Jaguar!
As you read through the Superintendent Quarterly, you are going to find just a few of the amazing things that are going on each and every day at Hubbard ISD! Our students and staff are working hard, and our kids are competing and winning in a variety of arenas.
Since my arrival last April, I can feel the positivity in and around the district campuses. More than ever, we have an emphasis on student academic achievement and accountability. In conversations with district educators, I hear how our students are improving from their beginning of year to middle of the year diagnostics. Administrators more than ever, are asked to be in the classrooms and partners in the learning experience with the teachers. In Hubbard ISD, we are moving in the right direction of creating systems that will sustain themselves for years to come.
February and March are critical for student success. Attendance is very important as we enter testing season. There are a variety of benchmark and interim exams that will help us prepare each student to be successful on their STAAR test this April.
I am extremely optimistic about the current state and future of Hubbard ISD. Please know that I believe we are stronger together, and I am here to serve you. If you ever want to connect, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Wilson and make an appointment, or find me at a community event. Once again, thank you for allowing me to serve you as your Superintendent, Go Jags!

The Hill County Fair - Hubbard ISD Secondary Students
The Hill County Fair, held annually in Hillsboro, is a very popular event for HISD students. This year, roughly 20% of the Secondary population participated in the fair! Livestock projects include steers, heifers, lambs, goats, and swine. A few students have entered the creative arts competition as well.
Students and parents, with the help of HISD staff, spent many hours and resources to prepare their projects for the fair. Throughout the process, students learn invaluable skills that can be used in many other areas of learning.
Here is how our students fared:

Technology Update
Hubbard ISD has invested in the security of our students and employees by installing additional security cameras. We have also upgraded our access control system and expanded the number of doors that have the keycard/pin pad feature. In the coming months we will also have a complete overhaul done on our bells and intercom system.

Access Control Upgrades
The new access control upgrades, allows for faculty and staff to enter through a swipe card while allowing students access through the key pad. Parents and community members will press the call button to which our campus secretary's can see and communicate with you prior to allowing access. Lots Happening at Hubbard ISD!
1st annual Hubbard ISD Spelling Bee!
Under the leadership of our Reading Interventionist, LeeAnn Ivy, we held our first annual Scripts Spelling Bee. Through a lengthy process, Maddilyn Zufelt and Kelsie Bragg finished in first and second place respectively. Hubbard ISD wishes these two ladies the best of luck as they represent us in the regional competition in Hillsboro on Feb. 5th.
HISD partners with Foundation Innovation!
During our December board meeting, the Hubbard ISD school board voted unanimously to support the adoption of our own education foundation. Foundation Innovation will begin working with our steering committee in February. This committee will grow into a board of roughly fifteen members. Please be on the lookout for further details as we get into March and April. Our goal is to have a strong foundation that supports teacher innovative grants in order to better serve our students.

It always makes me smile when I see facility improvement with real life, hands on learning for students. Thank you to Mr. Lynch and Mr. Crump for tackling these projects with our students. Talk about a win-win.

Board Appreciation Month - Thank you to our outstanding Board of Trustees!
Thank you to our board of trustees (Larry Hawthorne, Vicky Fletcher, Paul Morris, Curtis Ellison, Jason Patrick, Cody Weatherby, and Blake Wragge) for allowing all of these great things to happen. I believe all things rise and fall with leadership, and our board of trustees sit atop our organizational chart. This month we celebrated them, as January is board appreciation month. Each of these board members has the best interest of your students, and this organization in every decision that is made. It is not an easy position to hold at times, and I am grateful to serve alongside each and every one of them.
