Just a reminder that schools will be closed this upcoming Monday September 4th for Labor Day.

• Please complete and return your Emergency Closing form (pink paper) so that we can be aware of your family's plan in the case of an emergency school closure.
• Student Verification needs to be completed on Parent Portal. If you have questions, please email stonypointofficestaff@k12albemarle.org
• Volunteers that completed an online application last school year, do NOT need to complete another one this school year. If you are unsure or would like to sign up to volunteer at school this year, please email stonypointofficestaff@k12albemarle.org

The first PTO meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, September 6 in the Stony Point library from 6:30-8 PM. The agenda will include:

• Welcome and introductions
• Welcome to school from Maureen and Paula (school staff introductions, staff ALICE training information)
• How the PTO functions (committees, parent council and SEAC)
• Questions/Ideas/Comments from parents
• School Board Candidate Meet & Greet
• Logistics for October meeting

All Virginia students in grades three through eight will take the Virginia Department of Education’s fall growth assessments in reading and math. At Stony Point, these dates are as follows:

• Thursday September 7: Math fall growth assessment
• Friday September 8: Reading fall growth assessment

Please do your best to ensure that students are present and on time on these days, as testing will take place first thing in the morning. No preparation is necessary for these assessments, but we encourage a good nights sleep so that students can do their best!

We at Stony Point Elementary understand the stress that families feel as they juggle work, home life, and their children’s school needs. Please click HERE to fill out a confidential survey to help us to better support our Dragon families. This form will also be going home with students in their Friday folders. You can indicate areas where you would like assistance, or share how you may be able to help others (volunteering, provide supplies, etc.)

All forms will be handled with discretion and responded to by your School Counselor, Heather Corpora.

The STEAM Lab and our guidance counselor are collecting a few items for upcoming projects:

1. Legos (that you don’t want anymore)
2. Toilet paper/paper towel tubes
3. Yarn
4. Paper Plates
5. Plastic or paper cups
6. Magazines

If your family would like to provide any amount of extras you may have around your home, please bring (or have your child bring) these items to the front office. Thank you!

Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming up this fall! This year, our Book Fair will be held:

• Thursday October 12th (8 am to 4 pm)
• Friday October 13th (8 am to 4 pm)
• Sunday October 15th (12 noon to 4- stop by while you are at the Stony Point Fall Festival!)
• Monday October 16th (8 am to 7 pm)
• Tuesday October 17th (8 am to 4 pm)

Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during their scheduled library class. More information will be coming home shortly- stay tuned!

The SPES PTO is made up of parents, guardians, teachers and staff. Our purpose is to facilitate a sense of community and promote open communication among students, parents/guardians, staff and administration at Stony Point. We support students by providing additional resources for their educational and recreational needs, and work to enhance student school programs and physical environment through monetary and volunteer efforts. The Stony Point PTO is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

In response to overcrowding or under-enrollment at schools in the northern feeder pattern, a study for potential boundary changes and redistricting will be held.

The scope, objectives, and timeline of the redistricting study will be presented to the School Board this Thursday and can be viewed by clicking HERE.
