Dear Fremont Staff, Parents, and Community,

The end of the school year is always bittersweet. On one hand, we look forward to the summer months ahead and the opportunity to dive into our “summer selves” before starting anew in the fall. On the other hand, we will all miss the camaraderie of our friends, students, and co-workers and the palpable energy that is present throughout our schools.

Personally, I am grateful for what has been an amazing first year as the Superintendent here at Fremont. Each day, I was inspired by our dedicated teachers and students and the relationships that they form as they come together to create an outstanding learning environment. Our parent community, led by the PTO, dedicates a considerable amount of time and service to our schools. This investment makes a tremendous difference in nurturing a positive culture. It was remarkable that our “Better Together” theme was embraced by so many. It shows the strength of our Fremont community.

The end of the school year is also a time to say goodbye, especially to those who won’t be rejoining us in the fall. To our eighth-graders, we wish you all the best in your future endeavors to positively change our world! Please know that Fremont will always be a place where you are welcomed. We also say farewell to those staff members who are retiring. We are so grateful for all that you have done for our students and our schools. Join me in thanking the following retirees:

Fremont Middle School celebrated its eighth-grade graduating Class of 2023 with a ceremony at College of Lake County in Grayslake on Wednesday evening. Video of the graduates' procession can be found below, as well as a photo gallery. Additionally, a video of the eighth-graders reflecting on their time at Fremont along with well-wishes from some of their teachers may also be viewed below.

In an effort to connect the FSD79 Board of Education and the community, the District is creating a summary of monthly, regular Board meetings. To view a recap of the May 22 meeting, please click here.

The next meeting of the FSD79 Board of Education will be held Monday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fremont Middle School DEN. The regular meeting will be preceded by a FY23 Budget Amendment hearing. The 2023-2027 Strategic Plan will be voted upon as well.

A live video stream of the meeting will be available via the District’s YouTube page. The stream will go live shortly before the start of the meeting. The FSD79 District Office is undergoing minor renovations to repurpose office space. District staff has temporarily relocated their offices to Fremont Intermediate School. The project is expected to be completed by early-to-mid July. There are no changes to the phone numbers and extensions throughout the temporary relocation. The District departments will be available to the community at the Intermediate School throughout the project.

This Summer Online Learning Access document highlights the programs that students have access to over the summer, should you wish to access them for independent summer learning. These are the same online, personalized, self-paced, student-directed programs FSD79 uses during the school year. Prior to summer break, your child’s current classroom teacher(s) will provide reminders regarding the necessary login information needed to access these tools.

Registration is open for a free online summer program offered by the Lake County Regional Office of Education. The program features live math and reading instruction for students entering Kindergarten through 5th grade, from June 19 to July 28. You may click here for more information. Registration closes on June 12.

One of the highlights of the end of each school year is the annual Passing of the Torch ceremony for the MAP classrooms as the elder class passes the torch of leadership to the younger class. They also participate in a Poetry Cafe, hand out end-of-the-year awards as well as some other fun surprises for their guests in attendance.

Students participated in the always anticipated Field Day this week with a number of fun outdoor activities and games. They also got a surprise appearance from the Countryside Fire Protection District who helped cool everyone off.

Fremont Middle School is developing a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program to be implemented for the 2023-2024 school year. The goal is to offer our learners the opportunity to explore career pathways as they prepare for high school and beyond. As a part of the CTE program, we are looking for individuals and businesses to share their experiences in a variety of career pathways. Our intent is to have our Fremont school community connect with the local community by inviting speakers in and/or arranging visits to local businesses. The purpose of this survey is to see if you would be interested in sharing your expertise in one or more of the career clusters listed below. Please understand that you are not committing to anything at this time - we are simply looking to create possible opportunities. This link gives descriptors of careers falling under each cluster Career Pathways. The presentation was created using the career pathways offered by Mundelein High School and the Lake County Tech Campus. Thank you for considering being a part of the educational journey of our learners.
