Weekly Community Updates - October 20, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
Today, students received their interim packet to learn about all the interims offered this school year. We are looking forward to starting the process of students choosing their top five choices. Students should start thinking about the interims they are interested in so they can choose their top five choices. Next week, students will visit three interims to learn more about the ones they are most interested in during Interim Fair. Interim Fair happens during the school day when Flex Time is usually offered.
Next Friday October 27th is our Halloween Fest. Because there was some underage drinking last year at Halloween Fest, we have decided to implement dance protocols for students moving forward. There will be no in and outs for students and we will be conducting bag checks. Finally, the only entrance to the event will be from the Oceana Blvd parking lot. Please reach out if you have any questions.
I hope everyone has a restful weekend!
Take care,
Maritza Torres
Interim Courses
Today, in advisory, students received access to the interim course packet. Students learned what interims will be offered for the spring semester. If you are interested to learn more about interim, please visit our website.
On Thursday October 26th, students will visit three interims to learn more about them during flex time. Students receive their interim course sign up sheet in advisory on Friday October 27th and these are due to the front office by Monday, November 6th.
Interim Placement Process: Course sign up sheets turned in on time will be randomly sorted by grade level. After randomly sorted, Seniors will be placed into interims then Juniors, sophomores, freshmen and finally any late interim course sign up sheets. After students are placed in interim, they cannot change.
Advice to Sophomores and Freshmen: Be sure to have one of your top five choices be an on campus interim.

STOPit: An Online Reporting Tool
We are pleased to announce that our school has enrolled with STOPit Solutions Anonymous Reporting System. STOPit is an online reporting tool designed to deter and help stop bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors. Through the STOPit mobile and website, anonymous reports can be made to school administrators, with the goal of creating safer and kinder school communities, both on and offline.
This reporting system allows students and families to:
Anonymously report concerns through the STOPit App, or website, which are sent to a 24/7 Incident Response Center
Submit photo or video evidence (App/web only)
Alert designated administrators to issues and concerns before escalating
No personal information is needed to use STOPit. Both our school and STOPit are committed to protecting the privacy of student data. STOPit is a signatory to the Student Privacy Pledge, spearheaded by the Future of Privacy Forum and the Software; Information Industry Association. You may review STOPit’s Privacy Policy for details, including more information on how anonymous reporting works.

Dear Oceana students, staff and families,
Our hearts are heavy with the ongoing violence and loss that the Israeli and Palestinian people continue to endure. We want to make space for our students, families, and staff members who may be impacted, and ensure that the Oceana community will continue to serve as a safe and supportive environment for all. We aim to promote the importance of respecting and caring for one another.
