Steele Report
Back to School Edition- August 2021
Principal's Message
Hello Comet Nation,
On behalf of the staff at Steele High School, I would like to welcome you to the up and coming school year.
The Class of 2025 will be welcomed to Marion L. Steele High School at Freshman Orientation on August 13th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.
We hope to see many of you at Open House on August 16th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. All parents are encouraged to attend the parent meeting which will begin promptly at 6:00 pm in the Cafetorium.
Chromebook distribution for seniors, juniors, and sophomores is now from 1:00- 3:00 on Friday, August 13th in the front CLC parking lot. We had to make some adjustments to our Chromebook distribution due to the construction happening around Steele High School and on Washington Avenue. Freshmen will still get their Chromebooks at Freshmen Orientation. Please see below for more details on Chromebook distribution.
As we prepare for the start of a new school year, feel free to contact the main office with any specific questions, comments, or concerns!
Go Comets,
Mr. Tellier
Chromebook Distribution-Change of Time
Distribution will be completed via a drive-thru setup and you will remain in your car. Please enter the CLC Lot off of Washington Street by the cafetorium. Steele staff will be directing traffic. Please make sure to have the returning student registration completed in Parent Portal before coming to get your Chromebook.
Freshmen will receive their Chromebook during Freshmen Orientation. If anyone is unable to pick up their Chromebook during the distribution, they may pick it up in the CLC during Open House.
Returning Student Registration must be completed in Parent Portal in order to pick up a Chromebook. There will be stations for families who need to complete the Returning Student Registration in Parent Portal before getting a Chromebook.
Returning Student Registration
All emergency, medical, and contact information for all K-12 students will be collected through the Returning Student Registration process in your PowerSchool Parent Portal account at the start of each school year.
This information must be completed by parents/guardians in order for students to receive their school-issued Chromebook.
To complete the process, please go to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, click on the Returning Student Registration link in the left menu, and follow the prompts. For step-by-step directions, please refer to this Online Returning Student Registration Directions document.
If you completed this process last year, most of your child's emergency and contact information will be pre-filled on this year's form. You will simply need to check, verify, and update any changes.
Thank you in advance for updating your returning student's information as soon as possible.
Parking Permits
All student drivers parking on Amherst Exempted Village School District property must obtain a parking permit and follow the student parking rules outlined on page 26 of the Marion L. Steele Student/Parent Handbook.
Parking Permits will be available to purchase on the following dates for certain groups of students. The online Parking Permit application must be completed before buying a parking permit.
August 11th and 12th: Seniors and Juniors only
August 13th and beyond: Open to any student driver

First Day of School Information
As you prepare for the first day of school on August 19th, please review the following information:
⋄ Doors open for students beginning at 7:35 am and the first period begins promptly at 7:45. The day ends at 2:45 pm. Students may enter the building through the South Lot, Main Lobby, or Cafetorium.
⋄ On the first day only, students will report to their homeroom upon arrival. Homerooms are listed on the student's schedule. We will also post homeroom lists on the doors of Steele on August 12th.
⋄ The only supplies needed for the first day are your school-issued Chromebook, a writing utensil, notebook, and folder. Teachers will hand out the class syllabus on the first day which outlines the supplies needed.
⋄ Construction on Washington Street should be completed by the first day of school, but it would be a good idea to allow for some extra time the first few days as we all get settled back into our arrival routine.
