2023 - 2024
Welcome Back to School!
Week of August 21 - 25, 2023
Greetings, White Marsh Families!
Let's get this year started!
The White Marsh team is excited and eager to start this year with our amazing Bears! This week, Open House is on Monday. Our new Kindergarten students and their families are asked to arrive promptly at 1:30 pm for their information session and classroom visit. Students in Grades 1-5 may come anytime between 2:30 and 3:30 pm.
Several stations will be set up in the cafeteria providing parent information during Open House. Including: Home Access Center login and password, Daily Car Rider application, Bus Information.
School starts for students on Wednesday. It is a full day of school. Please look at the Bus Information for bus routes and times. It is good practice to be at the bus stop 10-15 minutes early especially for the first few weeks of school.

Important Information from SMCPS
ALERT: Beware of Phishing Attempts on SMCPS Student Accounts:
In recent weeks, phishing attempts have been targeted at SMCPS student accounts using methods outside of SMCPS managed services.
Phishing is a method where malicious individuals attempt to trick you into providing them with information about you and your online account information. These methods can take many forms, so staying vigilant for anything that seems out of the ordinary when online is important.
Additionally, please note that SMCPS IT support will never contact you on Discord, Steam, or any other application that is not managed by SMCPS and will never ask you for your account password. If you are contacted on any outside application stating to be SMCPS IT, please DO NOT respond, block/report the individual and inform your site administration so that it can be escalated.

Methods of Communication
There are lots of ways we will communicate with you. Once school begins, you should receive a weekly email with the WMES Smore Newsletter for the week. (It will come on Sunday evenings; contact the Main Office if you don't receive the newsletter.) Be sure to review it every week; it is kept up to date with important information for you and your student. We also communicate via Twitter, and our PTA has a facebook page. If you have not elected to receive texts from SMCPS, please do so! This is our fastest way to communicate in the event of a delayed bus, or other important information. Finally, our teachers also have a variety of ways to communicate with our families; you will receive more information the first week of school.

Chronic Absenteeism
Chronic Absenteeism: Students are chronically absent when absent 10% or more of the school days while enrolled at that school. For example, a student who is registered to attend a school for 30 days and who is absent 3 of those 30 days is considered chronically absent.
WMES will follow up with chronically absent students through the Pupil Services Team, Pupil Personnel Worker, and the Department of Student Services. In order to reduce the number of our students with Chronic Absenteeism, incentives to encourage good attendance include participation in the Bear Crawl, Running Club, and School Dance.
Text Alerts
SMCPS Text Alerts are a great way to get information quickly. They are not sent often, and usually only in the event of an unexpected school delay or closure. On occasion, WMES will send a text alert about a late bus, substitute bus, or school event. Click the link for information about registering for text alerts.
