Be sure to check the lost and found located outside the APR. We are acquiring items quickly! All items not collected by 12/22 will be donated to charity.

At our November Community Meeting an Elizabeth Haddon Code of Sportmanship was unveiled to students. Please review and discuss this with your child. Signs are also being made for outside.

Recess/Morning Line Up

• If the real feel is 15 degrees or above, we will play/line up outside.
• If the real feel is below 15 degrees, we will play/line up inside.
• We use weather.com for our temperatures.

Proper Attire

• Please be sure that your children are dressed in proper attire for the weather.
• Please send them with gloves, a hat, and a warm winter coat.
• Please be sure to label all items as we often have lost items during the winter months and we aim to return this quickly when labeled.

The Junior Women’s Club of the Haddonfield Fortnightly is hosting its annual town Spelling Bee on the evening of Thursday, February 1, 2024. (The snow date is February 8, 2024). Registration is at 5 pm; the bee starts at 6pm. 5th grade children from schools throughout Haddonfield have an opportunity to participate. Winners at the local level will participate in the county level bee.

We can only have 8 students from Elizabeth Haddon’s 5th grade. We will administer a written qualifying test at 1145 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5th in the Library.

Please complete the online form if your child would like to take the qualifying test. It must be completed by Friday, December 1st.

This is a reminder that students are not permitted to play after school unless a parent or guardian supervises them. As per district policy and the school handbook, students are expected to go directly home at the end of the school day unless supervised by a parent or guardian. After school students are to be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times. I appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

As Halloween approaches, please do not send candy in student's lunch or snack. Also, do not send in sports drinks for lunch.

This month, RULER lessons will focus on emotion words that can be used to describe an emotion in the “yellow” quadrant of the Mood Meter. Students will learn words such as “happy,” “interested,” “engaged,” “elated,” “confident,” and “joyful.” Individuals that can use words to express emotions are better prepared to work skillfully with those emotions, and then determine if they want to stay with that emotion or shift how they are feeling. We encourage you to read the parent connection letter linked below. These letters are a great way to reinforce what your child(ren) is learning at school.

School community meetings are monthly all school assemblies. They typically include a greeting, sharing of a book of the month, sharing of some kind of wonderment to get students thinking, giving our class Dragon of the Month awards, and singing of our school song. At some community meetings classes or clubs share a project or something they are learning about. While parents are always welcome, if your child's class is sharing the teacher will let you know if you would like to attend. Attendance is certainly optional.

Please send your child in with one healthy, easy to eat snack each day. Please do not send in candy as this is not permitted in school.

We have seen an increase in nurse visits to start the year. Please discuss with your child that they should ask to see the nurse in the following scenarios. Also, please contact the nurse at lewing@haddonfield.k12.nj.us if there is an injury at home requiring treatment at school and gym restrictions for an out of school injury.

• Unresolved stomachache or headache after trying self help strategies (i.e. water, a snack, lunch and bathroom).

• Any serious illness, injury or bleeding

• Injury to the head, face, eyes, and neck

• Painful limb injuries that may be sprain or break

• Pain due to a fall

• Fever, feeling feverish, shaking, chills, reports fever

• Vomiting or diarrhea

• Asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties

• Scheduled Medication or need for medication

• Possible allergic reaction or exposure; insect bites or stings

• Lost permanent tooth

We have noticed a trend that is causing disruptions in the classroom. Students are using their smartwatches to text or call home without teacher knowledge or permission. As our handbook and the student Acceptable Use Policy state, cell phones should be shut off and in backpacks. While students can continue wearing smart watches they should be in airplane or school mode. Students are not permitted to call home from watches during the school day.

If students need to communicate with you, they should call from the classroom or main office. If a child is using a device without teacher permission it will be confiscated until the end of the day. Frequent occurrences of unauthorized use will result in no longer being allowed to bring these devices to school. Thank you for your assistance with this.

If you do not have access to email, you may call in your child absent. You must send in a note when your child returns if you use the call in method.

• Students will be required to order in their classroom each morning.

We are excited to announce that the PTA has once again covered the cost of the directory for the 23/24 school year. If you were a DirectorySpot user last year, then you don’t need to do anything. If you are a NEW user, you can download DirectorySpot for free from the App Store (iPhone users) or Google Play (Android users), or you can also access the data from the web: https://www.directoryspot.net. There will be no paper directory, everything is through the app or website.

If you are already in the directory, please log in to confirm and/or update your family contact information. Please note that we will update student grade levels in July, so it might be best to log in sometime in August. If you need to make a change, you will need to do so using the website, not the app.

If you are new to the district or you were never added to the directory, please fill out this form and you will be added to the directory by October 1, 2023. After the beginning of October, I will update the directory on a weekly basis as new submissions come in.

Dogs are not permitted on the school property during school hours and at drop off and pick up times. Although many children feel safe around animals, some children have adverse reactions to pets even though they may be well trained. We have noticed some families bringing pets onto the school grounds especially at morning line-up or pick-up. Please be considerate of others by cooperating with this policy.
