Thank You, Voters!
Dear Fellow Community Members,
The ConVal School Board wishes to thank you, the voters, for your continued support of our students, staff, and programming. Even three feet of snow, power outages, and a delayed vote could not stop your dedication to our community and our schools.
Voter approval of the 2023-2024 operating budget ensures a continued excellent and supportive education for the children of our district. For the Board and administration, this was a months-long process, developing a budget that is both educationally sound and fiscally responsible in financially difficult times. We also appreciate your support of all remaining articles, from the building capital reserve trust fund to the health maintenance trust fund.
Please help us welcome both new and re-elected School Board members: William Bryk (Antrim), R. Michael Hoyt (Bennington), Thomas John Kirlin (Francestown), Dan Harper (Hancock), Greg Kriebel (Peterborough), and Jim Fredrickson (Sharon).
Thank you again for your support. For a .pdf file with detailed results, please click here.

Davidson & Lancaric Perform At NEMFA
Two ConVal seniors represented the high school music program at the distinguished New England Music Festival Association (NEMFA) March 23-25. Rowan Davidson and Hadi Lancaric were selected through a rigorous audition process. Lancaric sang alto voice in the choir and Davidson played flute in the band. The festival concert took place at the Woodstock Academy in Connecticut this year. Performing at this festival is a wonderful honor and distinction for our students.

Science Class Field Trip
Students Explore Harris Center Sustainability Efforts
On a field trip with Andria Johnson and Karen Fabianski, ConVal Physical Science students recently had an opportunity to explore several aspects of sustainable building practices at the Harris Center in Hancock. Students learned how to conduct a comprehensive energy audit by working their way through six stations where they learned how to measure electricity usage with Kill-A-Watt monitors and how to evaluate the energy savings of LED lights. Students got to measure the heat loss of single-, double-, and triple-pane windows and determined how much water the Center’s composting toilets save. Mr. Stetzer's Chemistry Class
In their current unit, Chemistry students reviewed the naming of covalent molecules, then they dove into the atomic spectrum where they learned about the nature of light. Fun fact: A pigeon's eyesight far exceeds most other animals' eyesight. Pigeons can see the visible light spectrum from ultraviolet to infrared light!

Early College and Career Planning Presentation
Chris Cox, an education and career counselor with the New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) Network, gave a presentation on Wednesday about “Early College and Career Planning.” The presentation covered the many pathways that are open to students after high school, including 2-year and 4-year college options as well as professional and certificate programs. There was a segment on the NH Scholars Program which qualifies successful completers for scholarships and college application fee waivers. Cox emphasized that specific courses may qualify high school students for eStart and Running Start credits that bring down the overall cost of a post-secondary education. He also encouraged students to explore opportunities outside the classroom through co-curricular activities, community service, summer programs, extended learning opportunities (ELOs), and career exploration programs. The final portion of the NHHEAF presentation was devoted to the calculation of the true cost of college education, the availability of financial aid, and different ways to secure funding from a variety of sources.
