Happy Holidays Chugach Families,

I wanted to thank all of you for helping to make the first half of this school year so wonderful and I know that our second half of the year will be even better. As we head into our winter break I sincerely hope that families and staff can take the time to spend with loved ones and enjoy the time off with each other.

In January we will begin offering after school tutoring in reading for students who were well below proficient in reading based upon their winter benchmark testing. The tutoring will primarily be for students in grades K-3. Over the break I will be working with Chugach staff on days and times for the tutoring and will be sharing this information with families when we return in January.

Also in January, our new IGNITE teacher, Nicole Staker, will be starting at Chugach. Nicole will be in the building starting January 8, and will begin working with students the week of January 22nd due to her having a pre-planned family vacation the week of January 15th. We are excited to have Nicole as part of our Chugach family.

Monday, January 8 - First day of Third Quarter - school starts @ 8:10am

Our Cafe Manager, Makoto, will be away on vacation until January 16th. Due to staff shortages, there is no substitute cafe manager to cover for her absence. As a result, we will not be able to have hot lunch service the first week we are back from Winter Break. Shelf-stable lunches and milk will be available at no charge between 1/8 and 1/12 with hot lunch service returning on 1/16. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We have great news! The front door will now be unlocked (but with the door closed!) between 7:45am and 8:20am. After 8:20am. you will need to ring the door bell to enter into the building. The door will be unlocked again at 2:40pm for parents arriving to pick up their student(s). We are still not 100% finished with the front office remodel but this ability to leave the front door unlocked at certain times is a BIG step forward!

Please mark your calendars for the upcoming Winter Carnival on Friday, Jan. 26, 5-7:30 pm. This will be an opportunity to celebrate our school community, light up our winter season, and enjoy the fun that winter can bring. The evening will include ice skating, music with DJ Spencer Lee, hot cocoa, food trucks (weather permitting), sledding, and fun with our Chugach community. Over winter break, please consider saving your ice lanterns, candles, and holiday greenery to donate to the carnival at a later date. Happy Healthy New Year!! We sure have seen a smorgasbord of viruses along with their many symptoms in our school this winter. From what has been shared by parents this school year we are seeing an increase in Strep Throat and Viral Conjunctivitis. Please reference the ASD's guidance on When to Keep Your Child Home from School. When in doubt please call to speak with Nurse Maya for guidance.

We wanted to give a special shout out to Marco for all his hard work clearing all the snow we've had this year. Mother Nature has kept him busy and up early to clear snow before the school day begins. THANK YOU MARCO!!!
