Heath Brook School...
Information and news from and to the school community
The Heath Brook School has completed the Beginning of the Year Benchmarks using our DIBELS screener. This screener targets the following areas:
Kindergarten-Letter Naming Fluency (LNF), Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF), Nonsense Word Fluency (NWF), Word Reading Fluency (WRF)
Grade 1-Letter Naming Fluency (LNF), Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF), Nonsense Word Fluency (NWF), Word Reading Fluency (WRF), Oral Reading Fluency (ORF)
Please keep in mind that this is a very quick screener that is nationally normed. It is one measurement tool used to help us guide some of our literacy instruction. It helps us determine if differentiated assessment/support is needed for individual students within the general education setting. It is a helpful piece of information, when used in conjunction with classroom assessments and observations that help us determine what kinds of interventions, if any, students need. Classroom teachers differentiate their instruction based on the needs of the students in their classrooms and this is just one of the many tools we utilize.
Last year, with our Heggerty and Fundations programs, we saw significant growth across the school on this screener. This indicates that as a school, our students are making progress with the instruction they are receiving. While we know that there are varied levels of progress for each individual, the collection of this data shows us that we are on the right track according to this nationally normed assessment tool.
Our fall 2023 data shows:
Kindergarten Beginning of the year:
Core Plus Support: 21% of students tested Total 24 students
