Willamette Elementary
Willamette Elementary unveiled its new school sign this week with various people present from the school re-naming committee.
The sign reveal was led by Sailor Houston, a fifth grade student at Willamette, pictured above with her classmates in Mrs. Olson’s class.
Sailor first proposed changing the name of the school, which led to the process of forming a committee, collecting input through listening sessions and partnering with outside organizations such as the Willamette Education District.
The process followed the MSD policy FF, which covers naming a new school. Welcome Willamette!

Health Pathway Students Help Out
Mac High students in the Health Services Pathway got some real-life experience by helping out with the elementary eye exams this week.
Students worked with the younger students to perform vision checks with the hand-held screeners, which can quickly identify various risk factors.
Thank you to the McMinnville Lions, which organize the exams every year!
Attendance Predicts Success
Did you know that missing just a couple of days a month means your student loses 10 percent of the school year? It doesn’t matter if the absences are excused or not. Students who lose that much class time can face learning gaps and/or miss out on social activities and make them feel left out. Research shows a strong connection between regular attendance and school (and life) success.

Families with Four-Year-Olds
Next week, Tuesday, Oct. 10, Mid-Valley Parenting is offering the first of three sessions of “Ready! For Kindergarten.” The workshop is for parents and caregivers and provides tools and activities to spark children’s curiosity and desire to learn.
Dinner and child care is provided! Click to learn more about the workshop and to register.
