This week we were delighted to have a group of school leaders travel to NYLD23 in Palmerston North.

NYLD is an annual event that takes place in cities all around the country, featuring inspirational speakers and activities and attended by thousands of young people from schools all around the motu.

Here is what our Kaitiaki Tama had to say about the trip:

We had to be at school by 5.15am so it was an early start to the day. The drive down was fun and we listened to music and did some challenges. When we arrived in Palmerston North we went to the National Young Leaders Day presentation. They spoke about being a leader and leading yourself. It was great for us Puketapu Leaders to learn more about good leadership skills. After the presentation we did some fun challenges which ended up with a couple of us wearing bibs and having dummies. The drive home was fun but as we got closer to New Plymouth it got quieter as we were all sleepy. It was a great opportunity, thank you Mr Lewis and Anya for taking us. - Kingston Benton

As we bid farewell to Corinne Sattler, our current Deputy Principal, at the end of Term 2, we are pleased to announce the promotion of Amanda O'Dowda and Micaela Westrupp to fully released Associate Principal roles.

This decision aims to ensure consistent and effective leadership for our staff, students, and parents. It will also provide our Associate Principals with additional time to dedicate to their ongoing learning initiatives and strategic goals.

STUDENT OF THE DAY

We love seeing all the Student of the Day tickets coming in to the office (once they have been taken home to be signed by a parent). It is looking pretty even at the moment but which whānau group will have the most tickets at the end of the term?

Whaea Kerie might think Kiwi is winning, but Whaea Paula thinks it must be Kākāpō for sure... We will see in a few weeks time!

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Perry who welcomed a beautiful baby girl Milla Mae Perry on Wednesday 24th May.

You may have noticed these new signs outside our kura last week.

These are permanent 30km/h speed limits so not just at drop off or pick up.

Reduced travel speeds make it easier for drivers to perceive the road in front of them and they are more likely to notice other road users - walkers, bikers, scooters and skaters - ultimately making journeys safer for everyone.

It has been great seeing tamariki try new spots to be picked up from while the
Mangati Road / Parklands Avenue roundabout is being worked on.

Keep it up whānau and remember please DO NOT wait or park in the drop off bay.

Forget Taco Tuesday - this week it was Noodle Tuesday!

Thanks to our friends at Noodlehead for giving us 15% of this Tuesday night's orders.

We raised $357.06 for Home & School just from ordering yummy kai and supporting a local business! The feedback we have had from parents, teachers and tamariki was great and Noodlehead did an excellent job of keeping their cool with all of our Puketapu orders.

LAST CHANCE - Bring a can of fruit for Breakfast Club and your class could win a $100 voucher!

We are asking students to bring a can of fruit to contribute to Breakfast Club. Cans are to be taken to the class and will be collected from there.

On Wednesday 31 May, official can recorders will tally each class's can tower and declare a winner. The winning classroom will receive a $100 voucher to spend!

One can = one point (no matter what size can)

Breakfast Club is available for all tamariki in the Design & Tech room every day between 8.30-8.55am.

It's free, it's delicious and it's a great way to start the day!

We are supporting Stats NZ to encourage everyone to complete the 2023 Census.

So, this is a reminder that you need to return your census forms if you have not done so already.

Census data is used to make important decisions that affect us all. The census is the official count of people living in Aotearoa New Zealand, and everyone who was in the country on Census Day, 7 March 2023, is required by law to complete a census form.

Your participation will help ensure that our community receives funding for services for the number of people that live in our community. That includes education, health, and social services.

To complete the census, you can do it online at www.census.govt.nz using one of the access codes provided in the letters sent to your household. Or you can fill out paper census forms if you have them. To request a new access code or paper forms, freephone 0800 236 787 (0800 CENSUS) or order online at www.census.govt.nz.

The 2023 Census closes on 30 June, so you should do them online now or as soon as practicable. Ensure your paper forms are posted so they arrive with Stats NZ by 30 June.

Census collectors are no longer visiting households providing help to complete census forms (except in the cyclone-impacted areas of the Far North, Te Tairāwhiti, and Hawke’s Bay).

If you need assistance or more information:

· You can attend a census support event and get face-to-face help to complete forms (for more information go to www.census.govt.nz/census-support).

· We encourage you to help whānau, friends, and neighbours complete their forms.

· There is information in New Zealand Sign Language, Braille, Easy Read, Large Print, and Audio formats, as well as in 29 different languages at www.census.govt.nz.

· The 0800 CENSUS (0800 236 787) helpline will be open until 30 June.
