October 16, 2023
Dear West Wing School Parents and Guardians,
As we close the books on the first quarter of the academic year, I wanted to take a moment to update you on all the significant learning and growth that has taken place at West Wing School while continuing to follow The West Wing Way by demonstrating Respect, Compassion, and Integrity.
Our students recently took the first English Language benchmark assessment and our teachers will be analyzing the results to determine areas of strength for our students and also areas of need. We use our Friday early release days to plan our instruction using current student data. Our students will also be writing personalized learning goals based on their performance. We encourage you to ask them about this in the weeks to come!
This quarter, we have been continuing our focus on instilling the values of Respect, Compassion, and Integrity in our students, known to our students as The West Wing Way! We have seen these principles manifest in the interactions between our students and the positive atmosphere they create within our school.
October is anti-bullying month and our students are receiving weekly lessons and activities. We are committed to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all our students. We encourage our parents to have conversations at home with their children about the importance of empathy, kindness, and standing up against bullying. Your active involvement in reinforcing these values will greatly contribute to our collective efforts in maintaining a respectful and compassionate school community.
We are also excited to have our annual PTSA fundraiser, APEX, underway! Our students are learning about showing our "APEX POWER". This program is designed to inspire our students to be Proactive, Optimistic, use strategies to Work it Out, put in Effort, and conduct a Reality Check. Through this program, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility and personal empowerment in our students. APEX is an opportunity for our students to not only raise funds for our school but also to develop skills and attitudes that will serve them well in their academic and personal lives. We hope that you can join us on Thursday, October 19 for our K-6 Obstacle Course, or on Friday, Ocober 20 for our 7th & 8th Color Battle! Parents and family members can make a pledge at https://myapexevent.com/.

Dear West Wing Parents/Guardians and Community,
Our Governing Board unanimously approved to seek voter authorization of a continuation of the existing override and funding for Student Safety.
This election will help preserve current fine arts and athletic programs such as art, general and instrumental music, and physical education, as well as maintain class sizes. The funds will also be used to attract and retain highly qualified teachers and support staff.
The total cost of the override for homeowners is a continuation of $21.27 per month property tax on the average assessed home value.
Your taxes will NOT increase as a result of passage of this override.

October is Antibullying Month!
Dear Parents,
This month we will be focusing on different topics each week of October.
October 2-6: What is bullying?
October 10-13: How can I be an upstander and not a bystander?
October 16-20: What are ways that I can include those around me?
October 23-27: Standing up to Bullying and Committing to Kindness!
We will be learning how to identify bullying and how to stop it from happening to you or the friends around you. We want to encourage our parents to ask their children about what they are learning over the next four weeks. You can also check out this website for parent resources.
