Principal's Message
Dear Families,
After a rainy week and some pretty crazy weather, we ended the week with an amazing Friday morning rainbow that I was able to get a picture of! The students handled the rainy week well and I was especially proud of them during the shelter-in-place tornado warning on Tuesday. Students stayed calm, followed directions, and did a great job. I also want to thank the staff and our families as well. Looking forward to some sunshine this week!
I want to remind that there is no school this Friday, February 16 and Monday, February 19 in honor of the President's Day Weekend. School will resume on Tuesday, February 20. We will be having our first spirit week of the second semester and I am hoping all students will participate - details are below:
- Monday, Feb. 12: Love to Be Comfy (PJ Day)
- Tuesday, Feb 13: Love Your Here Day (dress like your favorite hero)
- Wednesday, Feb 14: Color Me Valentine (each grade level dresses in a specific color: 8th grade - Red; 7th grade - White; 6th grade - Pink)
- Thursday, Feb 15: Show Your Team Some Love (wear something to represent your favorite sports team)
And finally, be sure to check out the images below of students from our Ally Action Organization presenting to staff and a big congratulations to our robotics teams for their performance over the weekend, one team has even qualified for regionals!
Sincerely,
Melanie Kray

PERSHING SELECTED FOR NAEP TESTING
Pershing Middle has been selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Thursday, February 15, 2024. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics, within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation's Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents/guardians, policymakers, and the public. One hundred of our 8th graders have been randomly selected to take the NAEP. If your 8th grader is one of the students randomly selected you should have received an email notification. If you do not receive an email notification about NAEP your child has not been selected.
CALIFORNIA HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY FOR PARENTS:
Families please take a moment to complete the parent survey for this year's California Healthy Kids Survey. The information you provide is critical and helps our site determine areas of need and how to allocate resources. Our goal is 80% parent participation:

SPORTS PHOTOS FOR THE YEARBOOK
Yearbook needs your help. We are including the Pershing sports teams in the yearbook but we need pictures. If you happen to have any pictures that we can use, please sent them our way. We have plenty of track pictures. We are still in need of both girls and boys basketball as well as the new sports that are starting, soccer and volleyball. You can email your photos to sruckle@sandi.net. Any photos you have will be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help and support.
