HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR MYE FAMILIES!
Greetings Parents and Guardians,
This week Empower celebrated our very first House Party! It was fabulous to see a sea of blue leopards having a great time celebrating together! Students and staff are all doing a wonderful job demonstrating traits of the Profile of a Graduate. Keep it up, it will be fun to see which house celebrates next!
Each week we are amazed at the growth of our students. This week, we saw students working in groups and setting their success criteria and giving each other feedback on tasks they completed.
IMPORTANT DATES:
October 24th-28th: Red Ribbon Week
October 28th: Book Character Parade
October 28th: Trunk or Treat (5:00-6:30p)
October 31st: No School for Students
Happy Diwali!
Please join the MYE family in celebrating Diwali on Monday, October 24th. Students are invited to wear traditional attire or red, yellow and green.
District Information
VATRE stands for Voter Approval Tax Rate Election. It is an election required by the State Legislature to approve a tax rate increase that generates additional revenue for public schools. Over 76% of Texas school districts have had a VATRE.
If a school district adopts a maintenance & operations (M&O) tax rate that exceeds the maximum amount allowed by state statute, a VATRE must be held to gain voter approval to raise the tax rate. For Fort Bend ISD a tax rate that exceeds $1.1546 will trigger a VATRE. The current tax rate is $1.2101.
Fort Bend ISD has a $47 million shortfall. A VATRE is one component in a two-part approach to eliminate the shortfall. The other component is strategic budget tightening.
Voter approval of a tax rate of $1.2101 (the same rate as last year) will generate $47 million in additional revenue. The District is planning to use this additional revenue to:
- Address the shortfall
- Provide funding for safety measures, including assigning police officers to every elementary school campus
- Allow increased compensation for teachers, raising starting pay to $60,000
- Allow for long-serving staff to receive years-of-service supplemental pay for their commitment and dedication to FBISD
Dine Out for Libraries
Our Leopard Librarian, Mr. Burris, will be at Lopez Mexican Restaurant at 7227 W. Grand Pkwy, Richmond from 4:00 to 6:00pm, but you can visit any time on Nov. 1st to help us raise funds for Bookapalooza!

This Year's Theme: #MYhousE
We have a beautiful building, but we also have a strong sense of belonging because of the people inside! This year we're focusing on our students and staff saying "My House" with pride! The House system creates connections across grade levels and among students and staff that may not feel connected otherwise. This feeling of connectedness will encourage kind interactions, positive behavior, and encourages the characteristics of a Profile of a Graduate:
- Equipped with skills for life
- Servant Leader
- Effective Communicator
- Critical Thinker
- Compassionate Citizen
- Collaborative team member
- Life-long learner
Each student and staff member will belong to one of the following houses:
- Leap House
- Empower House
- Achieve House
- Purpose House
HOUSE SHIRTS!
attendance!
Every minute of instruction counts! It is important that leopards are in class every day, on time, and until the bell rings at 3:25pm. When students are not present, they miss collaborative time with their peers, valuable instruction, and opportunities to feel like valuable members of their class. Please limit absences or early dismissal to unavoidable events to allow your child to be a full-time participant in school.
If your child must miss school, please send an email with the child's name, grade, date of the absence and reason for the absence to:
Visitors for Lunch
- No visitors on Mondays or Fridays
- Only one visitor per student. Do not bring younger siblings.
- Check in at the front office with a picture ID.
- Say goodbye and exit back through the front office when teachers announce the last few minutes of lunch.
We are excited to welcome you back to lunch and look forward to working with you to ensure a safe and smooth process!

Rainy Day Dismissal Procedures!
What does that mean?
- There are NO changes to students who usually are car riders
- There are NO changes for students who usually ride a bus
- There are NO changes for students who usually go with daycare
So who changes?
- Walkers and Bike Riders
How?
- Walkers and Bike Riders become car riders when Rainy Day Dismissal is called.
From Meet the Teacher to today, teachers and parents have covered many things regarding our Leopards. How they go home on rainy days should be one of them. If you need to confirm, please email your child's teacher.
Please review the Parent Letter - Rainy Day Dismissal included in this newsletter. It says Rainy Day Dismissal is called by 3:00 p.m. We are having Rainy Day Dismissal TODAY. It is important to remember that there will be a delay. Thank you for your patience and kindness.!
A few reminders!
- Doors open and breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.
- Instruction begins at 8:10 a.m.
- Dismissal is 3:25 p.m.

Birthday Cupcakes & Cookies
Birthday Cupcakes & Cookies:
Parents may send store-bought cupcakes or cookies for their child’s class on the child's birthday. We are on high alert regarding food allergies therefore, nuts of any kind cannot be listed in the ingredients. The ingredient list must be attached. The cupcakes will be passed out in the classroom right before dismissal. Please let your child's teacher know when you will bring cupcakes and drop them at the front counter for delivery no later than 12:00 pm.* This will begin on Monday, August 15, 2022.
*This is new for our returning Malala parents. This change ensures staff attention to front office parent needs in person and via phone. It also helps to ensure our attention on monitoring all front office safety measures.
