Term 2, Week 9
Pekapekarau Primary School - Friday 23rd June
Principal's Message
Kia ora e te whānau
We are almost in the middle of the year already! It is hard to believe how quickly that time has passed.
Last week, our school hosted the Te Awamutu Cluster Winter Sports and a group of Year 5 and 6 tuakana students attended and had a blast! Thank you for your support with the Teacher Only Day on Friday - we had a fantastic day and were inspired by our keynote speaker, Te Kahu Rolleston - spoken word poet. We were very fortunate to have him spend the day with us on Thursday last week, and I am sure many of you have heard all about his talent. Some of our tuakana were able to produce fantastic pieces of writing with him about our kura, and our next step is to combine these into one. We will share this with you once this is complete.
On Wednesday, we had almost half of our school participate in Tough Guy/Gal in Ngaruawahia. These awesome opportunities have been made possible by our passionate team. Thanks to Josie Robinson and Renee Lyon for their organisation of these key sporting events and to those who supported in other ways.
Yesterday we welcomed whānau in to share in the learning that has been taking place this term. It is an opportunity for you to have a look at some of the mahi your child has been doing and share in this together. If you were unable to make it, don’t worry - we are always open to visits at another time that works for you and this may be during the whānau interview hui which will be held in Week 2 of next term.
At the end of this term we farewell Louise Macro who is moving back to Auckland and also Louise Emery who is joining the team at Ko Wai Au Trust. Louise Macro has been with us since 2018 and has been a valuable part of our teina (junior) teaching team during that time. We wish her all the best for the next part of her adventure back to the bright lights and hustle of the city. Louise Emery has been with us for just over 5 years also and has been an asset in her teacher aide role. The difference these two special people have made in the lives of so many of our tamariki is something that we think is pretty awesome and we will miss you both very much.
Our kaiako are busy at the moment completing assessments, so they can write progress reports which will go home on Friday of Week 1. They will spend their non-contact time during the school holiday break writing these. Bookings for our whaanau hui / parent teacher interviews are now open for Week 2 of Term 3. See the link to place your booking below. Please also ensure that you read the letter below regarding the Te Raa Whakamana Rangatahi Kapa Haka Festival.
