Need to Know
Middle School Parent Information Evening took place last night. If you were unable to attend, feel free to review the Grade 7 Course Descriptions and Grade 8 Course Descriptions and reach out to teachers with any questions. Your son’s course schedule and teacher email addresses are available in your mySelwyn parent profile, by selecting your son's name and viewing his courses under the Progress tab. Please contact Ms. Poulin if you need assistance logging in to your mySelwyn account.
Intensives Oct 2-5: Students met with their Intensives groups this week for the first time. Excitement is growing for the upcoming week of experiential education! If you’d like a reminder, click here to check out the MS Intensives. Look for consent forms and other important course information that will be shared by Intensives course leaders in the coming days such as appropriate clothing, modes of transportation, spending money required, and parent volunteer requests.
Phys. Ed. changes Oct 2-5: Due to the “intensity” of Intensives week, phys. ed. classes for badminton, rock climbing, pickleball and cross country running will be cancelled that week. Those students will be dismissed at 2:45pm Monday-Thursday, Oct 2-5. Soccer and football games, and some practices, will still take place as scheduled. Coaches will provide details to their respective teams.
Truth & Reconciliation Week Sept. 26-29: Next week we will engage in learning opportunities based on the theme: Honouring the Survivors, inspired by programming from the National Centre for Truth & Reconciliation. Students and staff will honour the lives lost from Canada’s residential school system on September 29 by wearing orange shirts. Students may wear ANY orange shirt on Sept. 29 with their uniform pants and proper school shoes. Our orange shirt design is the same as last year, featuring a two row wampum. Last chance to order your shirts via this Google Form and they will be delivered to your son’s classroom by Sept. 22. Also, these orange shirts may be worn throughout the year as part of the SHS physical education uniform. All proceeds will go towards family support programs at Step by Step in Kahnawake. If you have any questions, please contact Eden Schwartz.
Tablée des Chefs: Are you Selwyn’s next best Middle School chef? Do you love to eat and want to know how to make your favourite foods? La Tablée des Chefs is the extracurricular activity for you! Sign Up Here by October 6th! Tuesdays after school (3:00-4:30 p.m.) from October 17th through April.
Clubs and Activities for Middle School Students: We are excited to start offering clubs and tutorials to the Middle School students. View the list of School Life Opportunities and calendar overview that are available now. Most clubs are optional and require no long-term commitment. We encourage all students to try new activities and get involved in the activities that interest or intrigue them. More opportunities will be added throughout the school year.
Trip Brochure: All overnight trips for Middle and Senior School students (including Grade 12) for the year are posted in this brochure. Please take a detailed look at the offerings for grade-level trips, theme-based trips, March break trips and athletic trips. Please note that dates for several athletic trips are subject to change and families should be in contact with their coaches directly for more detailed information. If you have any questions, please contact the trip leader listed under each trip.
Spirit Day 2023! Highlighting school spirit and adding to the special fabric that is the Selwyn community was our goal at the first edition of the PVA-led Spirit Day in partnership with Selwyn’s Senior School student leaders. What an afternoon it was as the sun shined and kids and families milled about enjoying carnival games, food, music and entertainment! A special shout out to the dunkees, Mr. Downey, Ms. Faulkner, Mr. Lajoie, Mr.Banerjee, Mr. Maurovich, Mr. Watson and Mr. McCarney. Congratulations to the Candy Guessing Game winners Ms Corbie, Achilles Papagiannis and Terry Liu! Thank you for attending and especially for your generosity as we raised $2760 for Sarah’s Fund for Cedars! We’ll see you next year! Joyce & Laura PVA Co-Chairs
