His presentation, "The Dark Side of Technology: A conversation with technology expert and author Kevin Roberts", was very well-received by those who attended. Kevin has generously made one of his e-books available to BHS families for FREE!

💸 Financial Aid + Scholarships
In mid-October, Mrs. Tye and Mrs. Belsky presented to all 12th grade Personal Finance classes on financial aid and scholarships. You can view the presentation below!
FAFSA & Financial Aid Info Sessions
Students and their families interested in learning about financial aid basics are encouraged to register for a virtual presentation provided by Michigan Department of Treasury’s MI Student Aid team.
Participants will be able to gather information on the following financial aid topics:
- FAFSA application information
- Federal financial aid programs
- State financial aid programs
- Scholarship searching resources

- November 16, 2023, 6:30-7:30pm
Michigan Achievement Scholarship Info Sessions
Students and their families looking to secure more financial aid for college are encouraged to register for an informational webinar about the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, which is the newest State of Michigan scholarship program expected to impact the majority of students.
Participants will be able to gather the following information:
- Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligibility requirements
- Michigan Achievement Scholarship award amounts
- Important action items for students and families
- Additional resources and program information

💇 Cosmetology Information Night at OSTC NE Campus
November 16th at 6:00 PM - RSVP by November 10th
Have you ever considered a career as a cosmetologist or hair stylist? Would you like to acquire training in hair care, treatments, cutting, and coloring? If so – GREAT NEWS – you can begin this training while still in high school!
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast (OSTC-NE) has an excellent Cosmetology program for Oakland County high school juniors and seniors. High school students can earn hours toward the state-mandated 1500 hours of instruction, graduate from high school, and pursue post-secondary education opportunities toward their Cosmetology License from the State of Michigan.
Attend our Cosmetology Information Night for interested students and your parents/guardians at 1371 North Perry Street, Pontiac, MI 48340. Enrollment for the 24-25 school year will begin at this event!

🏛️ 2024 HOBY State Leadership Seminar
Application due November 3rd
Applications are now OPEN for the 2024 HOBY Conference taking place at Albion College. This 4-day leadership conference allows students to develop their leadership skills and learn how to apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in all communities.
At HOBY, high school sophomores build their leadership potential through an inspiring three- or four-day Leadership Seminar based on three leadership perspectives: Personal, Group, and Societal. As many as 300 “ambassadors” from high schools across the state or country gather at their local HOBY State Leadership Seminar.
HOBY is a great fit for students who:
- are passionate about their communities.
- have leadership potential. understand and relate to the experiences of others.
- are curious and eager to learn. are interested in service. are adaptable and self-reflective.
- like to collaborate and work with others. demonstrate good character. have a strong sense of integrity. are excited to connect with peers across the state.

MiCareerQuest Southeast is November 14th at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Spots are limited!
MiCareerQuest Southeast is the region's largest interactive career exploration event for high school students. It exposes students to a broad range of exciting, rewarding career opportunities as they prepare for their futures!
Thousands of high school students from Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Wayne, Washtenaw and Livingston counties will be meeting with working professionals who have built successful careers in a variety of fields. In addition, young people will have the opportunity to touch, feel and work with the equipment, tools and technology used by people every day in a broad range of in-demand jobs.
The goal is to connect classroom learning with real-world jobs and their requirements. Students also will discover engaging workplace opportunities, such as internships, job shadowing and more.

👩💻 NCWIT Aspirations in Computing High School Award
Due Nov. 6th
The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) High School Award honors 9th-12th grade women, genderqueer, and non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and future plans. Since 2007, more than 25,000 students have received an AiC Award.
