Wildcat Weekly!
Wildcat Weekly!
Dear Wildcats,
PTO Someone Special Dance is tonight! Let's have a great time!
Our school PBSIS Fundraiser 'Penny Wars' has concluded. With our school community's help, we raised over $3,000 for our PBSIS initiatives. As you know, PBSIS is our positive behavioral support program that keeps our school responsible, respectful and safe. Mrs. Hermann's class is the overall winner and has earned a pizza party! We thank our school community, all of our teachers, and Mrs. Breslow and Mrs. Cerchio for all of their efforts.
Our NJ CAP Parent Workshop Zoom is on February 28th at 6:30 PM. Please see the fliers below in English and Spanish to access the Zoom to learn more about this worthwhile program. Grades 1 - 5 will begin the program in early March. Topics covered for our students will be decision making, leadership, conflict vs. bullying, the importance of upstanders, cyberbullying, internet safety and peer supports. Please visit www.njcap.org for more information.
This year’s Kids Heart Challenge is ongoing...please see our week 2 update letter below. This program is a great opportunity to teach our students about lifelong healthy habits. Please join our team by visiting
http://www2.heart.org/goto/walnutstreetschooltomsriver or using the AHA Schools app. Our school goal is to raise $12,000 as a school. If this happens, and if register half our school, I will be getting 'silly stringed'. Keep those donations from family and friends pouring in!
Our PTO Book Fair is a major event that benefits our school and students. The event will kick off the evening of Friday, March 8th and run the entire week of March 11th. Please click on the link below to see available time slots and register to help if you are able to!

Last week was Appreciation Day for Student Resource Officers. We sincerely thank Officer Terry Crowley for all he does for Walnut Street Elementary and keeping us safe and secure. Thank you Officer Terry!
Save the date and see the flier below! Freddy's Steakburgers and Custard fundraiser on March 13.
The Fourth Grade Fraction Pizza Day was a success with a lot of learning and smiles! The students' projects were creative and demonstrated their increased understanding of fractions. After learning about fractions in their current math unit, they had the chance to view each other’s hard work, solve their own fraction word problems, play "Equivalent Fraction" Bingo, and eat Papa John’s pizza with their friends. We would again like to recognize and thank Mr. Steve Waunsch who is the owner of this establishment. He is always supportive of Walnut Street Elementary School and our district as a whole...Thank you Mr. Waunsch!
Mrs. Nilan and Ms. Henderson won our staff PBSIS recognition this week...Congratulations! Check out some of our week's student winners below.
Have a great weekend!
