Welcoming Military Students at the Beginning of the Year 2023-2024
Honoring our U.S. Military Men and Women
On September 11, 2023, 22 years later after 9/11, CAHS students engaged in writing a letter to the U.S. Military Servicemen and Servicewomen. There were 197 student letters mailed to Operation Gratitude where they will be distributed to military men and women and hopes that it will bring a smile and encouragement their way.
Here are just a few examples of the letters:

Thank you to all military families for serving our country. We appreciate you!

NISD Decision of Respect
Decision of Respect Day Activity
October 6, 2023
CAHS will have students participate during the CAHS Elective courses.
Our district is celebrating Decision of Respect Day today, Friday, October 6th.
On this day we pause to remember David Molak, a San Antonio student, who took his own life after being cyberbullied in 2016. The day draws attention to helping end bullying whether that be person to person, or through social media.
Senate Bill 179 was passed in 2017. This Bill empowered school districts and parents with tools for bully prevention.
It provides for anonymous reporting for students, includes cyberbullying off campus and after school hours, and modifies the parental/guardian notification procedure. It provides flexibility in the disciplinary placement or the expulsion of students engaged in certain types of very serious bullying. It authorizes school principals to report certain incidents of bullying to local law enforcement, and provides protection from liability for doing so.

Please know that students are encouraged (not required or forced) to sign the Decision of Respect.

Operation Gratitude Letters
The letters the students wrote to the Military Men and Women in September through the Social Studies classes were sent to Operation Gratitude. We just received a letter from Operation Gratitude addressed to our CAHS students expressing their gratitude. I've attached the letter below so you can partake in the kind and grateful words shared from US Soldiers who received our student letters.
This activity was very rewarding for CAHS students as it has come to a full circle!

Dress in Camouflage
To camouflage is to disguise, and a camouflage is that which disguises — like the leaf-colored and patterned uniforms worn by soldiers who want to blend in with their natural surroundings.

Wear Your Favorite Travel Destination Shirt
Deployment destinations is the movement of military units or individual service members to locations and destinations outside of the continental U.S. and its territories for the purposes of accomplishing specific missions. Contrary to popular belief, not all deployments are combative in nature. Service members can also make an impact by being deployed on peacekeeping missions,
citizen evacuations, joint training exercises and even bolstering security at
U.S. high commissions and embassies abroad.
Deployment destinations can last from
anywhere between 90 days and 15 months, and there are no limits to the number
of times that active-duty members can be deployed.

Wear Favorite Trailing/Hiking Gear
“Rucking” is the military term for hiking under load. As you can imagine, this is a huge issue for the military, as soldiers must wear body armor and carry weapons, ammo, water, communications equipment, and other gear as they conduct patrols and missions.
