Welcome Back to Fife!
Fife High School Fall 2021 Welcome Back Letter
Back to Fife!
August 1, 2021
Dear Fife Families,
As summer winds down I hope you have been able to recharge for the start of another school year. Although we are still working through evolving health and safety procedures from the state and county, we are excited that this year might feel a little more “normal.”
Back to Fife!
This is the theme for 2021-22. With close to half our students this school year having never attended classes on campus before, and ZERO students ever having completed a traditional start-to-finish school year at FHS, we indeed have a sense of urgency to help teach our students what it means to be a Fife Trojan. We are in great hands with the Class of 2022 and our staff, who both will proudly take up the mantle helping teach and model our unique Fife High School culture and continue our legacy of being a school that is relational, academically challenging, and focused on developing students minds, bodies, and character.
This letter is the first of a few different pieces of communication that will go out as we step towards the first day of school. Fife High News is our main source of information for FHS, it is our electronic newsletter that goes out a few times each month. This Fall, rather than sending out one big correspondence saturated with information, soon you will be receiving a series of Fife High News editions that will cover important details for the start of the year.
Construction
The next few months we will be adjusting to Fife Elementary joining us on site, as well as the completion of our STEAM center and new baseball and softball complex. Over the next few months this will for sure present us with some unique challenges getting to and from the school each day, but we will do our best to keep everyone informed each step along the way.
Trojan Days
The first big event I’d like you to be aware of is Trojan Days, August 26th and 27th. This event is where students come on campus to take care of things like purchasing ASB, yearbook, parking, Cabbage Patch shirts, class schedule change requests, obtaining your ID picture and cards, etc. This year we will be providing tours of the campus for those 11th and 12th grader students who are not familiar with the FHS campus.
1st Day of School for Sophomores and New to District Students: Thursday September 2nd.
I want our new students to FHS to know that we got you! Don’t worry! The first day of school is actually just for new students, it is Thursday September 2nd. It is a day committed to helping our Sophomore class, and new students to the district, get acclimated to Fife. So this day features a unique schedule with only these groups of students on campus for much of the day. There is naturally a lot of uncertainty and questions as students begin their first day in a new school environment, and we use this day to welcome our new Fife Trojans, show them around campus, and build new relationships.
First day of school for returning students: Friday, September 3rd
Friday ALL our students are on campus for our first day as an entire school. During the first few days of school for all our grade levels there is a heavy focus on meeting people and learning about the school and the campus, all of which will be especially important this year as we work to reconnect!
Friday Night Lights- Back To School Tailgate
The first Friday evening of the school year, September 3rd, we plan to host Fife’s version of back to school night. Families and students can come to our courtyard outside the main office and meet our teachers while enjoying some music, food, and some games. The event concludes with our first home football game at 7PM.
COVID Protocol Planning:
State guidelines for schools require all students and staff to wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Because these protocols are fluid we will provide more detailed updates as we get closer to the school year starting. It is important parents and guardians help keep students healthy and free from COVID-19:
Monitor your child(ren) DAILY for COVID symptoms
Complete a COVID-19 self-screening attestation
Develop a plan to pick up your child(ren) from school promptly if they are presenting with COVID-like symptoms while at school
Adhere to masking and distancing protocols
It is important that parents provide the school with current contact information that includes phone number and email address.
Students will have access to masks, hand sanitizer, washing stations, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
Save the Date
As I said, much more information and details about all these events will be coming out over the next few weeks in Fife High News. However, in advance, here are some important dates that I’d like you to be aware of, again keeping in mind that details will be following in subsequent newsletters.
