Haynes Monthly
October
Dear Haynes Families,
I hope that you are enjoying the fall weather and that it has been a nice start to the school year! This morning, Lisa and I were able to have a great conversation at the Principal Coffee with parents and guardians. During the discussion, we heard from parents about what has been going well, what our students and families are looking forward to this year, as well as what parents are looking for from my communication. I really enjoyed the meeting because it provided me with an opportunity to learn more about the community, hear what is important to parents, and to build connections with families! I will be hosting more conversations throughout the year. Also, thank you to the 3rd grade families for hosting the staff breakfast this morning.
One aspect of Haynes that I've really been enjoying has been the School Meetings. School Meetings take place every full-day Wednesday from 1:30-2:10 PM. They are an opportunity for students and staff to celebrate each other, learn about the happenings in other grades, provide important information, and to build an overall community. All fifth grade students have the opportunity to host a School Meeting throughout the year. In order to prepare the hosts, I have lunch with the students to preview the meeting which is one of my favorite parts!
Over the last two weeks, our teachers have been actively engaging in data meetings, led by our literacy and math coaches, to review student progress and identify growth areas in literacy and math. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for educators to collaborate, share insights, and make informed decisions that positively impact our students. During these data meetings, our teachers have been setting specific and measurable goals for student growth in both literacy and math.
I'd like to end this month's newsletter with a personal update. On Friday September 29th, my wife and I welcomed our fourth child, Welles Robert Amitrano. Right after dismissal, we headed to Emerson and he was born just a couple hours later. Mom and baby are both doing really well and we are all learning how to be a new family of six!
Best,
Bryant Amitrano
Nurse Jackman Update
It takes about six weeks for your head to start itching after getting lice! Now is the time to catch the lice that were shared at summer camps and sleepovers. Routine inspection is essential to combat the spread.
Check your child’s head for these wingless insects. Because of their color and speed, they aren’t easy to find. Nits are tiny, grayish-white eggs shaped like a tear-drop. They are found on individual hair shafts approximately ¼ inch from the scalp and do not brush away like dandruff would. Favorite spots are behind the ears, at the crown of the head, or the nape of the neck. CDC Lice Info Let Nurse Jackman know if you find lice and she can guide you through treatment.
