November 2023
From the Principal
Hello Jefferson Families,
I hope you and your family has enjoyed the crisp fall weather this past week. Be sure your child is bundled up when they come to school! With two months of school now in the books, I continue to be so proud of each and every Jefferson student for the effort, enthusiasm and kindness I see on a daily basis. I'm looking forward to the growth and progress our students will be making in the next few months. Before we know it, we will be off for our winter break and 2024 will be here.
The unique month of November is here and there is a lot going on! Please note the following:
- Thursday, November 2nd, our Natural Leaders will be hosting a potluck in the cafeteria at 6:00pm. Bring a dish and join a celebration of our diverse community!
- Friday, November 3rd will be a 1:00 dismissal. Staff will be preparing for family/teacher conferences that afternoon.
- The PTA-led Book Fair begins this Friday, November 3rd from 1:00-4:00. and will run next week the 6th-9th. The Fair will be open until 4:00pm each day, and will extend to 7:00pm on Wednesday the 8th.
- Our Veterans Assembly will be Thursday, November 9th. Kindergarten - 2nd grade will be 1:45-2:15 and 3rd-5th grade will be 2:30-3:00. More info below
- Parent/Family-Teacher Conferences will be the week of November 13-17. School will dismiss at 1:00 each day that week. Please make sure you sign up for a conference with your child's teacher.
- The week of November 20-24 we only have school Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday-Friday will be off for the Thanksgiving and Native American Heritage Day Holiday break.
Speaking of conferences... As a fellow parent, I’m always appreciative to have the opportunity to attend my own children’s conference and talk about the ways my wife and I can partner with their teachers to make the most of the rest of the year. Please remember that your child’s conference doesn’t need to be the only time you communicate with your child’s teacher. As you know, your ongoing partnership is really valuable. My best wishes for a productive conference with your child’s teacher.
Kind regards,
Steve Hopkins

Honoring Veterans at Jefferson
If you have a family member, friend or neighbor who serves/has served in any of the military branches, we'd like to honor them at our assembly on Thursday, November 9th. They do not have to be in attendance, but if they'd like to attend they would be welcome and greeted as our SPECIAL guests. Click here to let us know of Veterans connected to our school community, and if they will be able to attend our assemblies. We will have two school assemblies honoring veterans:
1:45-2:15 Kindergarten thru 2nd grade
2:30-3:00 3rd grade thru 5th grade
The assemblies will be in our cafeteria. Unfortunately, we would like to invite families, but do not have the space to accommodate requests. We will only be able to accommodate veterans.
Slide Show
In addition to inviting Veterans, we are putting together a slide show for the assemblies this year. I am inviting anyone in our community to share photos of a Veteran (in uniform). If you have a photo you would like in the assembly, please email or text the picture to me with a description of how you are related to the Veteran, the branch of the military, and time period the Veteran served. My email is shopkins2@everettsd.org or you can text the pic to 425-931-2274. I need all pictures by 4:00pm on Monday, November 6th.
Book Fair is Coming!
November 3rd: 1-4 p.m.
November 6th - 9th: Open until 4 p.m.
November 8th: Open until 7 p.m.
News From the Music Room
This month in Music, we will start learning songs for Veteran’s Day! We will discuss what a veteran is, share about veterans in our family, and learn a variety of songs including our National Anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner. You can help by discussing veterans in your family at home.
Don’t forget to save the date for our two concerts at the Everett Civic Auditorium. Grades 3-5 will take the stage on Thursday, February 22nd, and K-2 will perform on Monday, May 6th. Please look for more information throughout this year.

Coaching Corner
Hello, Jefferson families!
It’s been an action packed October around the school building. As Jefferson’s Instructional Coach, I’ve been busy supporting teachers as they deliver the highest quality of instruction to each and every Jefferson Charger.
One area of constantly improving instruction is occurring during the English Language Arts block, in each classroom. During this time, our amazing paraeducators have been partnering with classroom teachers to support small groups of students using evidence-based, equitable instructional strategies. Teachers, paraeducators, and instructional coaches are working collaboratively to identify individual student learning needs, co-plan lessons, and deliver targeted instruction to flexible groups of students. We look forward to seeing continued growth in reading as we monitor outcomes for all students.
While at school, students in every grade are focusing on foundational reading skills such as phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. If you’d like to discuss ways you can support your student’s reading development at home, please contact me and visit the literacy at home resources by using the QR code below!
