Have you heard about the Bonneville Internet Speed Test being administered by your friends at Utah Education Network (UEN)?

It’s part of a statewide initiative to identify areas of Utah where homes lack the quality of internet service today’s learners need. The data collected will be used to invest in resources to improve broadband internet access in neighborhoods across the state.

Please share the attached materials with students and families, and let them know that:

1. The link speed.uen.org/ is safe to click on.
2. The test takes about 30 seconds and is for any student to take.
3. The data collected will not be personally identifiable.

While Internet Speed Week is September 18-22, some students may see the link on their devices as early as next week. We hope each student will take the test at least three times.

In this episode of Students in Focus, our host, Katie Neal, is accompanied by Ramona from the Utah Film Center to interview the finalists of the 2023 Tumbleweeds Film Competition for Kids. Join them as they delve into the creative minds of these young filmmakers and uncover the inspiration behind their short films.

Join GEGUtah for it's September Meetup! GEGUtah Leader Emma Moss shares with our community some great ways to connect Google with Canva including through Google Maps.

In this episode of UEN Homeroom, Dani and Matt are joined by FReadom Fighters, Carolyn Foote and Becky Calzada. We learn about the FReadom Fighters movement in Texas, all about reading and advocating for their libraries. Listen to get excited about your library and what you can do for your librarians.

In this course, students will learn how to effectively implement game-based learning and gamification in the classroom. The course provides a series of readings, resources, links, and video tutorials that explain what game-based learning and gamification are, why they are worth considering, and how to use them effectively. The course also covers a few examples of websites and other educational resources that can make game-based learning and gamification more practical in today’s classrooms. The course is divided into two parts: one that focuses on game-based learning and one that focuses on gamification.

Educators are increasingly expected to exhibit skills and knowledge of using technology to enhance student learning. The UEN Educational Technology Endorsement Program is grounded in the USBE EdTech Competencies and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards. The Competency-Based Educational Technology Endorsement is divided into four courses. Participants will come away with a portfolio of work that aligns with each competency.

EdcampWASO, Edcamp Wasatch South, is coming up on October 7th from 8-3 at the Summit Center in Nebo School District. This year the keynote will be ISTE/ASCD CEO and UCET/UELMA 24 Keynote Richard Culatta. He will have a conversation with longtime Utah educator and technologist Cody Spendlove. UCET will also have a full day of edcamp sessions, free food from Chick-Fil-A and Texas Roadhouse, and the return of the popular soda bar.
