Information Regarding State School Report Card
In accordance with Article 16, South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) has designated York Road Elementary as an underperforming school. This means that the school received an overall rating of unsatisfactory on its annual SC School Report card released on October 10, 2023.
While we are dedicated to enhancing this rating, it is important to recognize that just as one score does not capture the entire story of a student, this score does not fully convey the full scope of opportunity our school offers.
At York Road, we believe that all students can learn and grow. Our community support is strong with parents and teachers that are dedicated and hard working. Our goals include fostering positive relationships that focus on students and their needs as well as building a positive learning environment for all.
We have immediately started the work to improve the overall school report card rating. As an underperforming school, we are required to lead turnaround efforts and engage with the local board, district, school, and community stakeholders to create a Continuous Improvement Turnaround Plan.
The plan will include strategic actions for improving student outcomes and progress monitoring of our students' growth and achievement by the school, district, and SCDE. As a part of our school community, we invite you to join us in this work. We will further define this process and communicate next steps at our next school board meeting on Tuesday, November 14 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the District Office: 386 East Black Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
Additionally, families can effectively assist student achievement improvement in the following ways:
• Communicating frequently with your student’s teacher(s)
• Making sure your student attends school regularly
• Helping your student with homework
• Monitoring school and non-school related screen time
• Reading to or with your student
• Volunteering in the school
• Participating in school decision making
• Providing input for the Continuous Improvement Turnaround Plan - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfiOX2iLhtrboDV3GHOc9s-J0Wn_8bwlcQk3eDVkntXyIx04g/viewform?usp=sf_link
We are requesting your help with all the above as the school addresses its academic needs and will invite parents to serve on a committee to develop the Continuous Improvement Turnaround Plan. By working together as a team, we can improve outcomes both individually and collectively. We look forward to working alongside you to enhance teaching and learning at York Road Elementary.
